I questioned on this subject before. I want to insert a 3 minute video into a web page. I know I can embed a video, but the download time is outrageous. Any suggestions? I already have the video on my harddrive.

3 minutes is a lot! The trailer to The Lord of The Rings" comes up just shy of 3 minutes and it's 31 Megs. MOV file, more than a few minutes... Is it like a TV show amd needs sound? My video software allows me to save the video in different formats including the thingy that saves every other frame, and/or without sound. If you have the option, save the file in different formats to test the quality and file size... Also the size of the video window itself causes the file size to grow, larger window, larger file size. I think Quicktime is actually the best overall but it's still going to be really big... <spellcheck> </spellcheck>

Hello, When you say you can "embed a video", does this mean that it downloads automatically? I would give your visitors a choice. First, let them decide if they want to see the video. Secondly, if they do, give them a choice of format so they can select one that will work with software already installed (e.g. Quicktime, Media Player, Real Video). Regards

If you use streaming media, your viewers can theoretically watch it as it downloads. I say theoretically because on slower connections that is hardly ever the case. The only time that has worked correctly for me is on a 100mbit LAN connection. Both QuickTime and REAL will stream. ---------- Who put the self-destruct button THERE?!

I must agree with Puiwaihin. You can download Realmedia Producer Basic (its free) and it will let you configure for up to 26k connections. I would go with a 52k connection configuration, and make the movie, then allow the user to click on something and open the video on a NEW window. The Vampmaster

I used Microsoft's Encoder (free from Microsoft) which streams back video through Microsoft Player 7.0 (also free). The link below is a 4 minute interview. Let me know how well it works. http://jaba.net/thewhip/docs/don's-interview.htm Ralph

rpritcha, that is exactly what I was wanting to do! Your video started pretty fast and played pretty good. I will have to try to look into that. I don't know if I already have that encoder or not. If not I will download it and give it a try. Thanks alot. Hopefully, everything will work out with it. By the way, nice site. How did you get your pictures on the home page to rotate like that?

In response to Zack's message below, I can't speak for geocities not being able to let you upload .wmv files. I lease my web space directly from an ISP running FP extensions on a UNIX box in the US and as you can see, I have no problems. Sorry. File type .wmv is not supported by Geocities. You can see the types supported here http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/geo/gfiles/gfiles-24.html

Thanks guys. Does anyone happen to know of a free server that supports the wmv files? Preferbly one that does not contain adds.
