Hello All, I would like feedback on the basic look and feel of the site. Please be aware that this site is NOT operable in terms of searches and orders. (Some of the links do not work) I don't want to get too far into the coding of the ASP pages, until I'm comfortable with the structure. http://www.theknifeshoppe.com You can add items to the Cart by selecting the 'Add to Cart' button in the Featured Items table. Hello, The site looks just great. I love clean designs and this is really clean... The only thing I have to add and not that it needs it, but it be cool to maybe see a knife incorporated in the logo: Maybe something like: Of course, not as lame as my 10 second masterpeice shown here, but you get what I mean. Thanks to all of you for the 'cutting edge' and 'sharp' critiques so far...keep 'em comin'. Troy: Thanks for the 'tip'! I have left the Logo image in much more capable hands than my own. A graphic artist is working on a logo at this time. I just put the existing one there to fill space. I have passed your idea on...I liked the concept. Thanks again. SC, I agree with all the rest, but also wondered what a very slight hint of gray background on that leftside menu would look like? Almost seems like the there's a tiny (very tiny) bit too much white space in the main area. A light gray box behind the left menu might break that white space up just a bit??

I.M.Learning, When I first started building the template for this web site, I tried numerous variations of the very suggestion you made and couldn't find a good combination. I tried very muted colors and very bold colors, but it took a lot away from the site and it just didn't seem to fit. If you have any suggestions, though, I am open to them. Hmmm...you've tried it so I'd say go with your preference after seeing the variations as it's not a real big deal! Looks good this way too.

Awesome site. I love seeing sites that look well-designed; creates an instant sense of credibility. Wouldn't change a thing. Well, ok, I'd change ONE thing: Change "Mapquest Driving Directions" to just plain ol' "Directions." As a consumer of knives (doesn't THAT sound painful?) I don't give a hoot who serves the map. Robble, Thanks for the feedback on the site. The shopping cart is one that I have created. It has been evolving over the past 2 sites I have completed. I am actually hoping to make a 'Template' and offer it for download. (Strictly ASP / Cookie driven) Big Blue, Thanks for the suggestion. I have been in a quandry over this one. The reason I left the 'MapQuest' on there is so that the visitor will not be surprised when they are taken into a different web site. This way, they will know what to expect...I hope. If you have an idea to build on this, I would love to hear it. Thanks again.

Well, I don't like popups when they are a.) not asked for and b.) just advertisement. But I can justify, at least to myself, a popup if I want to give someone ancillary information, but not want the viewer to go off down some "bunny trail" of new adventures. For instance, at my St. Andrew's site, I have a link to the band. Instead of just sending them there in the hopes they'll come back, I open a new window for them to peruse and then close, bringing them back to my site. May not work for all, but seems to work okay for me. Maybe popup is the wrong term. I'm referring to a new window.... Bìλλ Ñìçøλ So.... what is under that kilt? Bill, Thanks for the honest input. I may go the 'New Window' route, but I may have to size the New Window to be pretty large, so that the map is easily viewable. I may also just provide a link to the image of the map...Does anyone know if this would be some sort of 'Copyright Infringement'?

Hi SC, On the map thing, I was just wondering if you were meaning to capture the image (as I have done on one of my sites) and just post it there, or if you meant to save the URL of the rendered image and hyperlink there as needed (which I don't think you can do). I'm not sure of Mapquest's thoughts about this, but it seems to me that as long as the image is posted along with the Mapquest logo, and perhaps a link to same, everything would be okay. Truthfully, I never even thought about it. I also noticed in your profile that you are a drummer.... wish you lived up this way, we could sure use one for our band. Also a reference to "O Brother, where art thou"... if you're referring to the flick, then it's a reference to one of the most underrated classic flicks of all time (IMHO). Laughed my butt off in that flick not to mention the awesome music track. Hope some of this helps a bit. As to the maps, I just capture the image and post it.... I hope it's all legal. Bill, Thanks...I'll go with capturing the image, but still provide a link. Also, 'Creole' drummin' and bagpipes...could make for an interesting combination. ...and yes, O' Brother Where Art Thou is the most underrated movie... Truth is, bluegrass has it's roots in celtic <read bagpipes> music. Them fiddles, when playing jigs and reels, were meant to sound like pipes. And I think there's a link from bluegrass to creole <read Cajun> as well. So it stands to reason that cajun and pipes might not be such a bad idea.... in fact I think I've heard some stuff like that somewhere along the way.... Geeze, I think I need some pomade.... LOL What did they call themselves? The Soggy Bottom Boys? Bìλλ Ñìçøλ So.... what is under that kilt?
