bob burkett -> Weird error message (8/6/2001 13:35:00)

I reformatted my hard drive a few days ago and reloaded FP 2000 on it. Tdoay I went to make a change to my site and publish the change, I got the following message - Server error: Cannot open file "C:\My Documents\My Webs\Bob 3a wip\Bob 3a wip\_vti_pvt\service.lck" for writing. I figured it was a problem with my server. The problem is that now, after closing down FP 2000 and going back in and trying to make any change to my site, I get the same message once I try to save the change. I'm not even trying to publish the changes, just saving them gets me this message and I can't save my changes. What's going on? Thanks,

Bob

I think the common cure for that is to reload the server extesnions, or was it recalculate links?

Thanks Spooky, are you saying that I should just ask my server to fix corrupt extensions? And if so, Why is it that I get this message anytime I try to make any change to my site while working in FP 2000 and before trying to upload anything? Thanks, Bob.

I believe that Spooky meant the FP extensions on your PC. (for PWS)

Thanks Garyb,
I am a bit confused. Does this mean I should uninstall FP 2000 on my computer and then reinstall it? Thanks,

Bob

Well, since my last post, I have uninstalled FP 2000 and reinstalled it. I can not make any changes in my site because every time I try to save something, I get this same error
Server error: Cannot open file "C:\My Documents\My Webs\Bob 3a wip\Bob 3a wip\_vti_pvt\service.lck" for writing. Any additional input would be helpful, as I am between a rock and a hard place. Thanks again, Bob

I think this is your problem and fix.

Hey garyb, thanks a bunch. I checked out the link and it was exactly my problem. Everything works great now. It is also a great link for anyone that might burn a web into a CD when backing up files or transfering a web to a new computer. Thanks again, Bob.
