we80.cnf - 3/6/2002 20:08:24
I recently changed web hosting services. When I try to publish changes to an established site, I get the error message: server error - cannot open "we80.cnf" no such file or folder. Does anyone know what this means? My new host has FP extensions installed. I know I never created anything called we80.cnf. Any ideas? My site is www.maine-acs.org

OK, do you have FTP access to the site? If so check to see that the file that is referenced in the article below is there. If it is there then it is a permission thing and probably needs your ISP's tech support to fix it. If it is not there then it looks like the extensions need to be re-installed. So the ISP gets a call here too. Print this out and give it to them or send a link or stomp your feet a little... quote: The server could not complete your request. For more information on the message from the server, click Details The following messages may accompany the above error message in the Detail section. msg=Cannot open file "/usr/local/frontpage/we80.cnf" for reading. osmsg=Permission denied The we80.cnf file (or domain_name:port_number.cnf) is a configuration file that is created by FrontPage during the installation of the FrontPage Server Extensions. Check the permissions assigned to this file and make sure they match those listed in Files and Permissions for UNIX Web Servers. msg=Cannot open file "/usr/local/frontpage/we80.cnf" for reading. osmsg=No such file or directory. If the file we80.cnf, (or domain_name:port_number.cnf) does not exist in the "/usr/local/frontpage" directory, re-install the FrontPage Server Extensions for the domain in question.

Thanks for the info, I've got my host tech working on it. Seems my old host transferred the extensions along with my site, and then the new host added them to my directory as well, so things got buggered up. Anyway, thanks again.

I believe there are 2 solutions: 1) The FrontPage extensions needs to be reinstalled by your webhosting co's tech support. 2) Don't use "www" when opening your site (or anything else for that matter). For example, use "XYZ.COM" instead of "WWW.XYZ.COM" etc. Interestingly, I search microsoft support and didn't find #2 as a solution to this problem. I migrated my site also and was having the we80.cnf error, but #2 solved my problem. Joseph Szarmach
