What exactly is a reseller plan? Is this where you buy so much space on a server and sell some of your space to your clients or customers? If so, it sounds pretty good for a web designer. What is a good host with a reseller plan?

Thatt's what it is - you buy the space and resell as you wish.

It is a good idea for a web designer, but do be very careful about the one you choose. I wnet with a reseller who were good, reliable and helpful. Now they are not, all has changed. By the time it went really wrong I had over 50 sites with them - have you any idea of the hassle of moving 50 sites, physically moving all those files, changing the info in every cgi script, telling each client they have to re-setup all their email? It is nightmare country and I am in the middle of it.

Because of this I am loath to make any recommendations, what is good today may not be good in 6 months or a years time. Just read what they offer carefully, test their support with a few emails for more info and a call or two as well perhaps - it may not equate to the service after you buy but it will give you some idea. That said take a look at http://www.thehostfactory.com and http://www.datapipe.com/ for a start.

As I say, it is a good route for most designers but it is putting a lot of apples in one basket and caution is necessary.

Women and cats will do as they please. Men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.

We had one of our biggest ISP's do a belly up. It left many of my clients "home-page less". As abbeyvet said, it's a nightmare. I am using AIT. Big, strong, secure!

I am reminded of the movie "The Holy Grail" when the knights are screaming "RUNN AWAY!!!" from the little bunnies. We did that with AIT.

I resell with http://webhostit.com and have been for almost two years. I cannot say enough good about them. Tech support is ALWAYS responsive (although no phone support) and they sell a large package with lots of features. Although I am not exactly knocking down the doors with my huge customer base, I am very very happy with them.

BTW we were with AIT and we RAN AWAY about 10 months ago. Life is good now. And yes, it is a nightmare to move clients, but webhostit made it easy, they stayed in touch throughout the process and I have nothing but praise for them.

i do not see how you can go wrong. Plus, Brandy, the owner of the company is a Southern gal...

Three strikes they're out. Thanks for the feedback guys. One other thing about AIT is the transparency. My clients won't even know the've been moved...
