Scanning brochure pictures???? - 3/12/2002 13:57:00
I know brochure pictures aren't the best source for pictures, but sometimes that is all I'm provided. Any tips for making these low resolution pictures scan any better? Most of the time I only need an object like this shredder so I make a lame attempt at extracting the background in photoshop and giving it a solid fill with the primary bacground color. The main object is still all "pixely". Any tips? Thanks Rich " as God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly." Edited by - Richard Sterling on 03/12/2002 13:58:59

Source the home page of the company, take the photo yourself. Might be easier in a smaller town like mine to just nip down the shop and take a photo. Or source the brochure owner, they probably have a nice tiff. As for making it a better image, there is a 'moire' pattern removal button that may help in PSP so it must be similar in photoshop. Just tried it on your image and it basically blurs it, to rid the spots ?? depends on how much you resize the image as to its quality afterwards. Then theres the edge preserving smooth....you still lose quality. Cheers from the Outback Get your didgeridoos from http://www.didj-territory.com.au

Richard, do you have the option when scanning, not in Photoshop, of setting the uh, settings on the scan? Most scanners have a dropdown where you can ask it to scan in "Magazine" or something like that. Or, I sometimes have luck with "tricky" things by taking a photo of them with my digital camera (no flash obviously)...and skip the scanner altogether. (Only works some of the time though). Jego

The trick is the moire. Some software packages have a remove moire filter while others don't. But, it does tend to make them slightly blurry sometimes. If you have the original brochure and scan it and use the moire I doubt it will blur. Scan it at the highest resolution and the blur should be unnoticeable. The reason Garry saw the blurring so much is that the image resolution hear is so low. Remove moire is blending nearby pixels and given the low resolution, the effect is much more noticable then with a high res with lots of pixels. Gary Ready Page Graphic Design www.ready-page.com

Looks much better, Richard..congrats. Paula..the "no flash obviously" was assuming that the pic in question was being taken of a glossy brochure...in which case, the flash of the camera reflects off the glossy paper and you get the dreaded "flash hole" in the pic. Jego
