Web Fonts - 3/12/2002 20:57:46
I have designed my site using cool fonts but when I look at it on some computers it can't be displayed...because probably that computer doesn't have the font installed. How can I work around this without giving up all my creativity for plain basic fonts? have a look at this page: notice the left column of the table...should be wst_eng font but will probably show up as Times New Roman. http://www.bruceleibowitz.net/cars_sunbird.htm Also, any formatting that I do like indent & line spacing is out the window when THIS font cant be displayed. How can I make it so my formatting at least will stay put? Bruce Huntsville, Alabama http://www.bruceleibowitz.net

I don't think you can get around of losing the fonts on computers(didn't show up on mine either). If you must have it look just like that you may want to create it as an image. Otherwise, I think you are out of luck. As for keeping things lined up and indented etc. Use tables. I see you are, but you will probably need to make cells for each item under your specifications to help keep lined up and indented.

Hi Bruce Have you ever tried using CSS (Cascading Style Sheets)? The only fonts that will show up on any windows computer are Courier, Times New Roman and Arial. All the others are dependant on a previous installation on the user's system. With CSS you can define exotic fonts to show up on any system because they will be loaded into the users's system for the time he's got your website open. One thing that can cause users to wonder what's going on: The HTML file will download using a local font, then when the PFR file (Portable Font Resource) is downloaded the font will change to the downloaded one. If there is a big difference it can be a shock to a user... Gil Harvey The Host Factory Resellers are our Specialty Find a Web Professional

Ok, so how do I do it - is this the way: upload the font I want to my web server then write a link to it when I write the CSS, like <link rel=font def src= [my font filename like a URL link]> Bruce Huntsville, Alabama http://www.bruceleibowitz.net
