I didn't want to see the intro and definitely didn't want to listen to the music but couldn't find a way to get into your site... maybe the firs tthing to do is a text link for SKIP INTRO...

Hi hootchietoad - welcome to the Forums

Looked at your site with XP, IE 6.0 with a modem speed of 28.8 and resolution of 800 X 600. The page took two minutes and 35 seconds to load. (Remember my modem speed.) Once it did however, I really enjoyed the animation

I became somewhat confused as to the link however. I initially thought the "Hit Me!!" was related to your counter since it was centered right above it. I started to click all over your graphics at the top of the page You may want to consider something like "Enter Here".

"Biography" and "Tour" links did not work. All others did, including Shape Shifter and Guitar Player. Please note your text next to Guitar Shifter, it would look better if it was centered. Also, a little space between your top frame and body would help. Notice as you scroll down the page seems to slide under the header.

Links for "Other Appearances" not working.

Perhaps it would help as to a comment of "Download Here" by the MP3 link. Personally, when I get an immediate download from a link, I kill the site.

This is your "Friends" page. Please note however the title is "mainpage" which is not the same as http://www.hootchietoad.com/mainpage.htm This may cause problems in the future. All yellow links on the page worked.

All links on your "Link" page work.

As to the music. I have it on my site and folks here have complained about it. It was valid crtiticism however, kids sleeping, volume too loud, etc. What they suggested to me was offering the option to turn it off or - turn it on.

One last suggestions, have you considered links on each page to your other ones? That would eliminate the need to go back to the main page each time for the next link.

I hope this helped. I really enjoyed your site - you've obviously spent a lot of time working on it.

John

Hi Hootchietoad,
I actually liked the music and I think that probably folks purposely going to the site knowing it is a tribute to the musician probably would like it too but I agree with EWD, always give the viewer an opportunity to skip the intro.

I thought the flash was pretty neat but remember that not everyone runs it so you have to give them a way in.

I also agree on the "hit me". It took me two times through the flash to figure out that was how I should go in.

Paula

Thanks for the input folks. As for the Hit Me thing on the flash page, it's just something Stevie says in lots of his songs...sorta like James Brown used to do. I think I should purchase Swish and make the flash smaller anyway, so maybe the link wouldn't be hidden at the bottom then.
Some links don't work cause I haven't put up links yet.
Again, thanks for the input, I appreciate it.

I would place a preloader on the flash intro, so it fetches all the data instead of trying to download and play the data at the same time.

You can get some coding advise for these type of things over at www.flashkit.com
