I’m lost.

I’m using Windows XP pro; I installed IIS, ver 5.1 from my disk.

I have two questions:

First and foremost, I want to be able to view my web site on my local computer with FrontPage extensions installed... I have read the help files but I still do not understand what I need to do. Are there any step-by-step instructions that can tell me in plain English how to do that? Or can someone here tell me quickly how to do that?

Second, are there any plain English explanations on the concept of Internet information services and Microsoft Management Console?

You should not be having problems with IIS on XP Pro. FP should be recognizing your IIS installation automatically. It should work fine, but then again we're talking about Microsoft, so anything is possible.

You say you want to view your site on the server before you publish; may I suggest you give up that folly and do your editing and page creating live off the server? Life will be so much easier that way. Try it, you'll like it.

Yes caywind I published my sight on Geocities. (The site will eventually go on another company server) I created a forms page where people will be inputing information, and upon hitting the submit button I wanted the information to be sent via email. When I try to set that up and upload to the sever, the "submit" and "reset" buttoms have no effect at all. That's when I decided to try to set up my own personal web server. Right now, I get this error message when I try to set up the "where to store results" in the "form properties".

I've never tried editing the page on the server, don't know if I can do it on Geocities…..I guess I'll find out. I'm going to try and install the FrontPage server extensions next. I'm sure I'll have many more questions as I go along.

Actaully, It does work in Geocities...I just tried it. But now I have another problem.

When I click on "Form Properties" and try to have a form sent to my email address I get the same error message.

I am editing this page "live" on the Geocites server. Is it Geocities or am I doing something wrong?

Live from Geocities -
The geocities form handler isn't set up to send to e-mail. They have it that way on purpose.

I don't know if you can use another form handler with Geocities...

Hi Daveo

Did you manage to get your site working on your local IIS? If not, try creating an empty web. It will be something like:

http://yourcomputersname/whatyouwanttocallyourweb

Then open your disk-based web and publish to your new one.

I always work with my site in IIS to ensure that all components work as I would like.

Nah, I gave up and that for now, because I'm in a bit of a hurry to get my site up and running. If I need to make a change that involves the extensions, I simply make the change live, on line.

I do plan on getting the extensions on my local drive soon and I'll try your suggestion.
