to flash or not to flash - 3/18/2002 17:23:47
I used swish to make a small flash file on my main page at www.okihost.com . My question is if this is a bigturn off for alot of people. I know most people have flash but is it better to just be safe than sorry.

Personally, I think Flash movies can be a really cool addition to or enhancement of a website. I've used Flash on clients' sites, but I really don't think I would use it on my own site because to me, every single "hit" counts and I don't want to lose even one visitor because they don't have the right plug-in or can't see the movie for some other reason. As far as I know, I have the Flash plug-in on my computer here at work, but it must not be the right version because I can't see your movie. (I'm sure it's great)!

In answer to your question - is it better to be safe than sorry - it really depends on whether or not it really matters to you if the occasional visitor doesn't get the full effect of your site and may not go past the home page because of it.

I do not mind a small amount of Flash on a site. Yours works fine for me. I would like it better if you stopped the Cisco animation after the first loop. My only real complaint with your site is that your title graphic is not as smooth as it should be. IMO

I thought the same thing.. I cant change the Cisco logo because I got it directly from them. The logo though seems weird to me. I will make it in PSP7 then go to save and get some error about how it can only be saved as so many color so I save it and it comes out pixelated like that.. Kinda weird.

Hi Vivo,

My vote is flash, and flash often. The flash on your site is understated and very nicely done. But I like the big ones too.

The way I look at it: if you have a Mercedes in your garage don't drive the Rambler.

Just my 2 cents.

Joe

You may need to see what your transparency is set to when saving the file. That may be your problem. If that does not work tell me what font you used and email me at martin@stclaircountyal.com and I'll give it a shot if you want. I also use PSP7.
