Site Critique PLEASE! - 3/21/2002 13:51:21
The site has not been completed yet, but I could really use some feedback. Thank you all! http://monicalvl.hypermart.net Edited by - Luna on 03/22/2002 11:55:59

Very nice layout, colors, navigation, etc. I couldn't find a single thing I would change about the site. OK, there's one thing, and it's VERY MUCH just a personal preference. I don't like fully justified text. But that's just me and I can't even explain why. Just don't. Other than that, your site is pretty much perfect as far as I'm concerned.

I agree with everything Kokomo said. I did find one thing I would definitely change and that is the font size on your Juricert Technology page. Consistency is very important and the font size is way too large compared with the rest of the fonts on your very nice site. Terry Ellis http://www.protectall.com

Thank you both, Kokomo, about the text justification, yes I agree and I am still thinking about how I like it better, for me, when is justified looks cleaner, but is harder to read so I am not sure if to go with the cleaner look or with the easy to read one ????. Terry, Thanks I agree about the consistency, I have fixed the font on the technology page and home page. Now, some of my pages, like the Legal page are looooonnnngggg so I am thinking on adding a back to top button at the left hand side of the footer. Does anybody know how to do this??? Monica

Thanks Terry I am glad that you like the site. I will check the thread out and will work on implementing the back to top button. Could somebody give me some feedback about the loading time?

Looks great, but I got a security cert error when I opened it up. Our only hope today lies in our ability to recapture the revolutionary spirit and go out into a sometimes hostile world declaring eternal hostility to poverty, racism, and militarism." - Martin Luther King, Jr.

Hi Luna, Looked at your site with XP IE 6.0. Like Albino Lab Rat, I too hit a security alert: "The name of the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site". I killed the site at that point. John Age is a high price to pay for maturity.

Luna, I came in this morning to check out your thread and see how your site is progressing. You have a bit of problem that you may not be aware of. Gil was right about changing the https to http, but when you did, did it allow Hypermart's advertising annoying pop-up windows to start working? I would get rid of them even if you have to pay a small fee. It annoys customers and slows down your site. I might have it wrong, but I don't think so. Terry Ellis http://www.protectall.com

I agree with you Terry, I know the pop -ups are annoying but the site won't stay in that server, I will just keep it there for the wonderful outfront members to critique until probably the first week of April and then it will be moved to its real home (Juricert's own server) right now the old(current) version of the web site is at www.juricert.com and it will be replaced with the new version soon, but I wanted some feedback before going live with the new look. Thanks!!!

Whoops, if I had read what you told someone else about not staying permanently on that server, I wouldn't have commented. But now I'm glad I did becuase I looked at the old site and now I know you did a great job improving it. Terry Ellis http://www.protectall.com

Hi I know that public hosting is free but, is it worth it. When I encounter a site the serves those relentless " geocities " type ads I leave immediately. A good alternative is www.myhosting.com a basic FP site package is only 9 bucks US.

John 40004: Yes the gray cell at the left of the page was left intentionally for the pop out menu. (the main navigation menu), plus I added top navigation to the home page and the contact page and links at the bottom to the privacy and legal pages. Does the pop out menu really look bad at the left of the page???? Robble: The site is only temporary in that server it will be moved in a week or so to its own server (without adds)

Hi Luna, Just looked at your site again. I get two quick pop-up windows, both from HyperMart. I'm confused as to the pop-up you're talking about - I don't see it. Are you designing your site with a pop-up window? By "pop-up" I mean a new window that opens like HyperMart and not a mouse-over that opens a link menu. There have been many discussions here as to the HyperMart type pop-up. Go to the top of the OutFront page, click "Search" and enter: pop-up to review them. John 40004, quote: Just looked at your site again. I get two quick pop-up windows, both from HyperMart.
The site will only be staying on Hypermart for this week and then it will go to its own server so it won't be any pop-up adds! quote: I'm confused as to the pop-up you're talking about - I don't see it
I was talking about the Pop Out MENU at the left of the page (links to registration, about Juricert, etc.), when you asked me about: quote: One question on your home page - did you intentionally leave the links off the left side in the frames? That large block of grey looks lonely sitting there.
Are you talking about my menu at the left of the page?? if yes, then, YES I did it intentionally for the site navigation(the menu above).

Hi Monica I'd add text links to the bottom of the page for browsers that don't support DHTML and disabled users - otherwise, looks good to me. Cheers Andy Internet Business Solutions S.L.

I am coming late to this, I really like the site but like Kokomo I am not sure about the justified text, it really is a readibility/usability issue. This is from an article I wrote w hile back for which I had done a fair bit of reading in advance, so this represents a number of views, not just mine. quote: In print justified text is created by making small and subtle changes in the spacing between words and between the letters within words. Even high screen resolutions have difficulty in recreating these small changes without seriously altering the 'shape' of words. As a result spacing tends to be uneven, breaking up the shape of words and phrases and making them difficult to read. Another problem is that browsers do not support hyphenation, so while in print a word can be broken over two lines with a hyphen in the middle on screen excessive spacing within and between words will occur instead with very unhappy results from a visual point of view.
I really do not think it would adversly affect the 'cleanness' of the page to left align. Nice site, best of luck with it! Katherine ++++++++++++++++++++++++ www.inkkdesign.com Women and cats will do as they please. Men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.

Thanks Andy, I will work on adding the text links. Gracias de nuevo! Katherine, I think you guys have a point re the justification of the text, I will be working today on changing it to left justified plus adding metatags, title descriptions, keywords etc. Thanks again, Monica
