When I select "Blink" as text format it never seems to work. Am I doing something wrong ? Does anyone know I can get text that blinks ?

Any help appreciated as always !!!

I had that problem too. I read references saying that <blink> exists, but it never works - anyone?

If I'm not mistaken, the <blink> attribute is no longer supported and is frowned upon in the design community. I believe Netscape was the only browser to support it and that was way back when.

I honestly do not know if using "blink" is frowned upon or not, but I use it and think in some cases it is effective.

I've found that if you enable this rollover effect then change the color of hyperlinked text to anything other than "automatic," the rollovers do not work for the hyperlink where the color was changed.

If I'm really bent on having hyperlinks remain a certain color plus have them "blink," I change the hyperlink colors in "page properties" >> "background color" >> "hyperlink" (I also tweak visited and active hyperlinks). This will, of course, effect the color of hyperlinks on the entire page.

I assume by that that you mean if you highlight the text on the page and change its color then the effect does not happen? This is fully to be expected - what you are doing there is overriding an embedded style with an inline style. You need, as you say, to choose the colors for the various states of your hyperlinks in the Page Properties dialogue box to overcome this. Or, preferably, use CSS to style your hyperlinks.

Which can be overcome by using CSS instead.

On blinking text. It never was suported by IE, the tag is deprecated though should still work in older versions of NN at least. I have a feeling it might not work when associated with a link as distinct from standard text, though that is a guess, I have never actually tried. However if you must have blinking text you can do it with JavaScript: http://javascript.internet.com/messages/blinking-text.html

It is horribly annoying though.

Yes, I was offering one possibility as to why Handsome may be having the stated problem. Many of us are still learning about FrontPage features to avoid.

Like an increasing number of effects utilized on the web today, the "blink" feature can be very annoying. I've often shut it off after giving it a try. Nevertheless I believe blinking text can be visually effective and useful, and will continue to incorporate it into some webpages, albeit sparingly.

In the future I will attempt to enable this effect the preferred way: via CSS.

I'm sorry Gail, I didn't read your answer properly and thought it was a seperate question as it was not referring to just blinking.

One of us, and it may well be me, is mixing things up. I thought Ian was asking about text that flashes on and off, whereas you referred to on mouseover changes on links. I thought you were referring to having problems getting the blink on a link, as distinct from ordinary text, which is why I went into all that - becasue I am not sure you can.

Absolutely no need to apologize, Katherine!

Lots of good stuff here, even if someone misunderstood. I always gobble what you share with us.

When I read your post (elsewhere) about your "most rudimentry knowledge of web design imaginable" only two years ago, it gave me a lift knowing there was hope for me (yes, I actually was getting discouraged). More "nugget after nugget after nugget," please.

Well, I've been talking about packing all day and I better get to it. Am off to Seattle tomorrow for a relaxing visit with some of my family. Will be good to leave this FP stuff on the back burner for a while. But if anyone should observe and say otherwise, know that it is *not* me sitting on the airplane during the seven hour trip with a yellow highlighter and stack of printouts entitled "A Very Concise Guide to HTML for FrontPage Users," "The Art of Building Tables - Parts 1 & 2, HTML Cheatsheet, etc.!
