Newbie question - PWS - Please help. - 3/28/2002 11:53:13
I've been using FrontPage for a few years now but have never ventured into ASP. I need it now because I want to install Spooky Login. But I never used PWS until I installed it last night.
I'm treading cautiously because I suspect I could do some serious damage. I'm actually reading instructions!
In the Advanced section of PWS I pointed Home to my web (which is a directory below My Doc's) rather than in Inetpub. But in File - Properties of my web (in FP), I still can't check the box that says "Allow scripts or programs to be run."
In Advanced section of PWS, the Scripts folder points to Inetpub - my guess is that's the problem. I can see two ways to fix it - (1) move my web to Inetpub, or (2) make all those other directories within my web where it is and "point" the folders in PWS Advanced there.
I have a hunch that this choice could be critical. So, rather than experiment and destroy my web I thought I'd ask for help, please??
Which should I do, or should I be doing something altogether different?
(BTW - I did backup my web.)

I pulled up that article and it helped - at least to assure me that I clearly am over my head, though I hope not too much. I searched around for other articles hoping to find something resembling instructions. Didn't really find it, though I did find some other useful info.
This is one of those times I really need it spelled out - sorry. Am I supposed to put my web in C:/Inetpub/wwwroot or C:/Inetpub/wwwroot/webname ?
Thank you VERY MUCH for helping the newbie. I'm off today to pick up an ASP book, but I seriously doubt it will address my PWS questions & issues
(D'ya think they have PWS & ASP For Dummies? My guess is that 'dummies' should stay away from it. Ah, but here I am anyway.)

What do you know - they do have a PWS & ASP For Dummies book. (Not really.) But I did find a book that goes through the very basics. It's almost like ASP for Techie Dummies (oxymoron there). Now to read it.....
Thank you SO much for all the help!
PS - For those few of you who might be as new to this as I am the book I found is 'Active Server Pages 3.0' "Visual" from maranGraphics & IDG. ISBN: 0-7645-3472-6
