security - default groups of root web - 4/9/2001 17:22:00
I am sure we aren't the first to experience this so I'm hoping someone has a solution for me!

We have a rather large root web, with many subwebs. Different divisions 'own' the content of the subwebs, therefore they want 'unique permissions' on their webs. At the root web level there is one group that we want ALL webs to have, but several groups that shouldn't necessarily have permissions on subwebs. Is there a way that we can add a group we define to the default groups used when creating any web (maybe by editting the registry?) Doing so would allow them to use unique permissions, but guarantee our one group is included in their web permissions?

Hi Sue

Don't get too excited, I'm afraid I don't have an answer for you, but I wanted to move this back to the top of the list so you do get an answer.

Hi Sue,

I am assuming that you are hosted on NT using IIS (?). If you are not the admin call your web host. They can setup "groups" and give the "groups" access to different areas which would have a common password.

I have also used this in the past and it is nice...

Hope this helps,

Hi Swirl:

I haven't found a solution yet, any chance we can move this back up on the list one more time?
