Hi there,

I've just put up a site at www.cherrygroup.co.uk and I'd really appreciate your comments.

In particular there are a couple of points:

1. This is a recruitment site, with a back end db holding all the jobs for the secretarial part of the business. Please go and look at them, because if you select 'all' jobs (there are currently only 11 jobs!!!!) then it returns pages each containing 10 results, and the navigation bit at the bottom I have changed from those awful grey buttons by using no_mac_jacks loony nav system.

What do you think?

2. Someone with AOL tells me they had trouble loading the asp page with the secretarial vacancies on. Anyone else get this problem?

Of course criticism/comments about the site in general would be appreciated

Hi Stuart,
Lokked at your site with XE, IE 6.0, 28.8 on 56K modem and 800 X 600 resolution.

(1) The site loaded extremely fast.

(2) All the links on your home page go to an "About Us" page, each one with a different page name. They're obviously different pages since the links are different on each. Its somewhat confusing - was this intentional?

(3) I looked at your site with glasses on and glasses off. The text was hard to read for some reason. Also, the font color of the links tends to blend into the page.

(4) Just a suggestion, you may want to remove the Microsoft ad on your home page meta tag and put in some words relevant to your site to help with the search engines.

I think it's really lovely. I like the white, black with red combination. Everything loads fast. I do agree with John, the text is a little hard to read for some reason.

Very nice job! Simple, clean, fast. AOL folks have trouble with everything.

Clean and simple.. I think I would make the links a tad bit darker grey. I found myself moving closer to the monitor to make out what they said...

In the process, I strained my neck and now I considering legal action.. he he

Hi Stuart,
Nice clean looking site and I agree with the previous posters that your links would be more visible in a darker grey.

You have used Arial, maybe if you changed it to Verdana ( a font designed for the screen )it would be easier to read and still have the impact of a sans serif font.

But the black/grey/red on white is so chic!

I love the site! Very clean design. Well done.

Only two three suggestions:
  1. Your default hyperlink color is too light (at least on my laptop). I like the understated tone, but something with a bit more contrast would be appreciated, especially when links appear within a paragraph... they almost look like gaps at a glance!
  2. Add some javascript to change the text color to red when you hover over the image (not just the text). Since they're both hyperlinked (the image and the text), be nice to treat them the same. A better visual cue that the image is active.
  3. I abhor justified text! It looks good to glance at, but it's a bitch to read!

Caz> I use verdana on other sites. And i agree with you. Arial is a client spec on this one though...
