Reinstall needed? - 4/7/2002 16:24:32
I keep getting errors in my Event Log (Running Win2KProfessional) that says that three services has hung on starting. (FTP publishing, SMTP and WWW Publishing). I have uninstalled and reinstalled the II Services thru the Add/Remove Windows Components in Control Panel (several times) It doesn't seem to fix it. Any suggestions? I am thinking of trying a repair with the W2K orignal disk but can't recall what I need to be sure to back up if it over writes anything. Anyone run into this before?

Hi Ritarun, I am also having a win2k pro problem and trying hard not to have to run repair with the CD but to answer your question on what you need to backup......anything you don't want to lose. It should not bother apps but I wouldn't trust it. Paula Edited by - PBailey on 04/07/2002 17:14:36

My data is always backed on a daily basis. I've been bit before. I just thinking of those setting in W2K that might give me grief! I' think I'll take a walk......

quote: quote:
(FTP publishing, SMTP and WWW Publishing
all of IIS... I had problems with PWS 4, and here is what I had to do to make it work...it appeared that the problem was caused by the uninstall leaving some files on the hard drive. MS says it is intentional....? All of this procedure assumes that you are just setting up the server and have everything you want backed up... (note: many of the the PWS install files say IIS###, I think it is a "crippled" version of IIS4 or 5???. my order of uninstall may be incorrect? ) - Uninstall IIS
- search for *fp03*.*. delete
- search for *www*.* if the folder exists delete
- search for inetpub (folder), delete
- uninstall Frontpage
restart the server, reinstall IIS, restart, reinstall FP, restart, (if you get really motivated, MS says the updat for IIS is very critical) <spellcheck> </spellcheck> <spellcheck> </spellcheck> Edited by - caywind on 04/07/2002 21:08:28
