I have a strange problem now. I had my website on the free host and they were "shut down" but for some reason kept my site hosted even though I had requested to "cancel" hosting but "keep" the domain name. That's not the problem tho. Well, I got a new host. They set up my account & gave me the nameserver info. I logged into my domain Manager & changed the contact info + nameservers to "point to" the new host. That was 2 days ago. Today at work, I went to my site and found the placeholder page created by the new host, and I checked whois.net & found my info & new nameserver was indeed posted worldwide. So that's a good sign, right? All I have to do when I go home is publish my frontpage site to the new server. Not so quick however.... When I got home & went online with MY computer, i type in my website and it still shows me the site as it looked on the OLD host's server!!! I removed all my html & images from the old host - all thats left is a placeholder page from Plesk Server Administrator (my old host's server). My new host's placeholder page is blue and says "powered by ensim". Why isn't my URL pointing to the new host here at home but it does at work? I am seeing the new one. Your old page is cached at home, either on your computer or by your ISP. Try clearing your cache first, if that doesn't work then your ISP may be caching also and you will have to wait until they clear it. Also, ask your ISP to actually delete the site. Then if you get a 404 (file not found) ask your ISP to get your site's entry off of their DNS servers....actually as I read through the post...that must be it. Your ISP dns records need to be updated with the new nameserver info. You're going through the old ISP for internet service at home, correct? <spellcheck> </spellcheck>

Ok, funny thing happened. At 12noon today it switched to the new one. Now my site is up!!!! whooooooopppppeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Bruce Huntsville, Alabama http://www.bruceleibowitz.net

Whenever you change hosts it takes the ISPs of the world about a week to update the new IP address association with the corresponding domain name. When setting up and taking down the new and old hosts, you should use IP addresses only for about 7 days until everyone gets updated. After that, delete the old IP address and you should be good to go. Follow that procedure every time you switch, God forbid you should have to very often. ISP and computer caching will drive you insane trying to figure out what's going where when if you don't use IP addresses for looking at the different hosts.
