What can I read to help me - 4/8/2002 14:03:42
What I am getting ready to do is to begin to design a online Bible Institute where students can come and take classes (for free) as an extension of a small Bible College. What can I read to help me get started?

While I have a pretty firm grip on building simple websites..but what concerns me most (and I'm really clueless at this point) is how to do things like, create a password area where a student can log into his page/pages. I really have no idea how this is done at this time...many times it's called a blackboard. Here the student would find announcements, personal notes and info about his account.

I also need to create online test forms...ect ect. Could anyone point me out to some things I can read to help me get started? I am in the position to be able to devote my attention to this full time.

Hi Kantucky,
I don't know a lot about this subject, but I think if I were going to try something like this I would look for an open source PHP program that had the features I needed. Have a look at
http://phpwebsite.appstate.edu/
You may need to look around a while to find a list of features, I'm not sure if it will be immediately obvious to you what this actually is but it's a collection of scripts, modules if you will, that do various things, such as a bulletin board, an archive of articles, forum, calendar, member registration, and so forth. You can use the modules that you need and customize the look of the site. Another popular one is
http://myphpnuke.com/mpnintro.php
You have to scroll a good way down this page to see a description of the program and it's features. There are many others, you might have a look at
http://sourceforge.net/
You can search there for these kinds of things. I'm not sure if any of them would be suitable for setting up a "class" online, I've never looked at that specifically before, but something like that might show up in a search at sourceforge. Hope this helps.

I was looking for something on sourceforge and came across this, didn't have time to look at it much but it might be what you need
