This one is kind of a hodge podge of Windows Keyboard Shortcuts. I'd like to thank the members at ihelpyouservices for contributing to this list. Feel free to add others here in this thread so we can keep track of them all. I will gladly add them to my Windows Keyboard Shortcuts page when time permits. Lately, time has been permitting! Enjoy, especially the first one! Windows Keyboard Shortcuts Windows Key + E This one opens a new Windows Explorer Window. Probably one of the hottest shortcut tips I've found. This one gets a lot of hoorahs! Windows Key + M This minimizes all windows so you can get back to the desktop quickly. Another hot one for those of us who have mutiple windows open and use our desktop as a temporary workspace. Shift + Windows Key + M Restores all windows to how they were. Alt + Tab Switch (toggle) windows, saves having to click on taskbar. Ctrl + F Find While in Internet Explorer... Ctrl + H Shows you the history of web pages you visited. Ctrl + N Opens another Internet Explorer window. Ctrl + W Closes currently open Internet Explorer window. Vertical Scrolling While viewing a web page with vertical scroll bar, press space bar to scroll downward. Shift + space to scroll upward. You can also use the Page Down or Page Up keys. End to go to end of page. Home to go to top of page. Ctrl + E Shows search Ctrl + I Shows favorites Alt + Left Arrow Go back Alt + Right Arrow Go forward Ctrl + Refresh Reloads the page from scratch, images and all! Shift + Click Opens hyperlink in new window. While in your favorite Word Processing or HTML Editing Programs... Ctrl + C Copy, places the copy on the clipboard. Ctrl + O Open Ctrl + V Paste, inserts the copy on the clipboard into the area where your cursor is positioned. Ctrl + X Cut, removes and places the copy on the clipboard. Ctrl + Y Redo last command. Ctrl + Z Undo last command. Part of my career entails consulting with clients on how to effectively and efficiently manage their way around Windows and the various programs that they utilize on a daily basis. I try to stay away from that mouse as much as possible and will do as much as I can from the keyboard using shortcuts. There are quite a few good ones in FrontPage and I think this would be a good thread to begin sharing them, you know, like... Ctrl + Tab Toggles between open documents. My favourite is Ctrl + h. It opens the Replace dialogue box or as I like to think of it "Global Search and Destroy". It is a great tool for finding and replacing text in pages or code in HTML view. Cheers

Update: I've revised the page on my site that shows these Windows Shortcut Keys. I added CSS and a little bit of flare to the presentation! ;) Windows Shortcut Keys Makes you want to click them, huh? Hello Pageone, Do you know what the keyboard shortcut is for closing all open windows. I know one exists but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Scott

Hello imouthere, that is a shortcut that I am not aware of. There is of course Ctrl + W which will close the currently open window and then Alt + F4 which will quit the program. Belive me I am all too aware of the good 'ol ctrl+alt+del technique, being an exclusive Win98 user . Not exactly the method I was going for but I guess it will do the job in a pinch. Thankz

I never even realized I had a windows key on my keyboard! How long has that thing been there? What else can it do? Just those 3 things, plus open the startmenu?

paperfish! I missed that Ctrl + H. Adding that one to the list too! Man, I can't believe I haven't used that one. And here I am preaching Windows Keyboard Shortcuts. What's that all about?! Sure enough, there is that Ctrl + H right in the menu along with the rest of them. Some things just never dawn on you until you openly discuss them! One other KB shortcut that I use a lot in FrontPage and Word is SHIFT+ENTER. This adds a break and not a paragraph symbol in FrontPage and drops your Cursor in Word down one line instead of two. It's especially helpful when Microsoft wants to "help" you during bulleted lists.

"Ctrl + Refresh Reloads the page from scratch, images and all!" I thought that F5 does the ssame thing? Or does it just refresh from the cache? Great tips! Shortcuts separate those who get it done from those who get it done FAST!!

Hello tgorski and vansmack! vansmack, thanks for the reminder. We actually have another topic going on Soft Returns vs. Hard Returns which is what you are referring to. It didn't even cross my mind that I forgot to add those to my list! I'll do that momentarily! tgorski, I don't believe that F5 reloads from scratch, I could be wrong though and will investigate a little further. I think that F5 reloads the page using cache. My favorites are Alt-Esc to toggle between open windows, and of course the Ctrl-C to copy and Ctrl -V to paste. How did I ever live without all these cool shortcuts? I just used the windows-E to opena new Explorer window! Just how cool is that?!! Claire

One of my fav's is CTRL + A for an Edit>Select All...use it all the time. I also love my PRNSCN key for screen captures, but that's not really a keyboard shortcut, now is it?! here's my favourite - once you try this you'll wonder how you ever did without: In Word, it's easy enough to select a paragraph of text - but sometimes the selection can be a bit too smart for its own good. Sometimes I find I want to select a rectangle of text (perhaps to miss out the list numbers on the left hand side). Put the cursor at the corner of the selection, hold down ALT and drag the mouse to select. Instead of selecting line by line, it's selecting a rectangular area. If you're not sure what I mean, try it. Whilst you won't use it every day, I guarantee that at some point you'll be glad you read this... clum1

My favorite is ALT TAB. It's easy to hit and jumps me back to the last window I was in as well as showing me the rest. That way I can jump between two windows when I copy in various parts from one to the other.

Ctrl + Click In FrontPage, while in Normal View, you can open other pages by following links from the page you are viewing in the Normal View. For instance, I'm proofreading a page that has a hyperlink in the body copy that leads to a instruction page for that topic. I want to take a quick look at that page to make sure all is okay. Instead of going into my folder list and finding that page to open it, I just position my cursor over the link, press Ctrl + Click. That link will now open in the Normal View of FP for editing. Good one Shirley! I'll usually just hit the Stop button. I'll try to work this one into my daily keyboard habits. I knew it was there, just never really used it. Just like all these other shortcuts. OK shortcut experts.....somewhere in the forum I saw a shortcut to bring up the folder list so we wouldn't have to be constantly dragging it open. Now I can't find it to put on my list! Help please Thanks Paula So much to learn......

Hello PBailey! I've been thinking about this one quite a bit today and am not quite sure which folder list you are referring to. Is it the one in FP? If so, I don't know of any keyboard shortcuts to open or close it. There is a button in the upper toolbar that will allow you to quickly toggle the folder list on or off.
