If you are just typing "in the name of the site" that might be it. You need to type the full URL IE: http://www.domainname.com/

If that doesn't help come back and we'll try something else.

jami: Notice the "/" at the very end of Gil's example. Before my server will let me publish I have to put this "/" at the end of the URL or I get a similar error message. Wierd but true.

I tried with the / at the end, and tried /home, but still says can't find server, check proxy settings. (don't know what those are). I called host again, they can get in fine, and said fp extentions are on. ??? thanks!

Make sure, when you are entering the username and password that you are using the right case. There is a difference between upper case and lower case letters.

Could that be it?

The message comes up usually before I even get to passwords - on bottom of screen says 'resolving server destination' and that's when i get error message - sometimes comes after passwords - but usually right when i start. ?

Maybe if you typed here EXACTLY what you are typing in the publish box?

But how are they accessing it... with fp? What is the url? One of us can try just to be sure it isn't only you... then maybe they'll try reinstalling the extensions again. We don't need the username/password, just the url to see if fp can relate to that location.

I,m just grasping here, but do you have the right extension here? You're not a .net or .org or something are you?

I just checked that url at http://www.dnswiz.com/fptype.htm and there aren't any fp extensions there (or they may be corrupted). Contact your host and have them reinstall them.

Linda

ps - thanks to Ginnie for providing the updated link to that tool.

There are no FP extensions installed at that address. Call your host.

Does this dnswiz site work if you put in an ip such as http://192.168.3.17?

I'm not able to publish to that address and I've been told they HAVE installed & re-installed FP extensions.

IM Learning - yes, it will work if you put in an IP. My site isnt published yet but I was able to check to see if there were extensions.
