Problems Installing FP2002 Server Extensions - 4/11/2002 2:51:22
When installing the downloaded FP2002 server extensions I get the following error message:-

You can't upgrade port '/LM/W3SVC/1:' to FrontPage Server Extensions. You need to install Microsoft SharePoint to be able to upgrade this virtual server.

Also on the Server Extensions 2002 Admin pages is the message:-

The following virtual servers are available on this machine. To perform site administration tasks for a virtual server, click the virtual server name. To specify configuration settings for a virtual server, click Administration. To Extend FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 to a virtual server, click Extend. To upgrade to the latest version of FrontPage Server Extensions 2002, click Upgrade.

Default Web Site http://KA-PC10-W2K 4.0.2.4426 This type of upgrade is not supported

Can anyone help?

Ken, Did you uninstall the 2000 extensions first? MS stresses that. I believe the fix is to uninstall all extensions first and then re-install the 2002 extensions.
After the 2000 extensions are uninstalled, go to Program Files/Frontpage/Version3.0. If it exists then look in there, back up anything you want to keep and delete the entire folder.
The uninstalls of the extensions have a feature that doesn't actually delete the Version# folder, in case there is something important in there....

if in doubt, then rename or move it. The actual explanation from MS stated that there may be custom scripts or settings in there that the user may want to keep...

Sorted. Checking on the MS Knowledge base I found http://support.microsoft.com/search/preview.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q269647 which basically says load the SharePoint Team Services which I did and then everything worked.

Many thanks for your help.

Ken, did you have to uninstall the version of extension that were on and then use the 2002 upgrade? In reading the article, does that mean that most (NT) extension upgrades fail? Thats a big bug! If you look over this board there are so many posts about 2002 extensions...

Negative, I did not have to delete or uninstall anything.
