FP2002 security issues - 4/11/2002 7:15:12
Am not sure this is the right forum for this question, but...
Am working with a local school district developing school web pages. The tech folks (who are anti-Microsoft) tell us that we can't use FP2002 because it(as a client) opens up the network to attack by virtue of it's susceptibility to hackers posing as "services". I think they are referring to web services, which I understand is an option which could be installed with FP2002. I know there are continuing extentions problems, but we are posting our pages on a server outside the district, so they don't have to deal with this.
I can't find any reference on the net to this issue and think the techs are wrong. There are many reasons we want to use FP2002, including cost, ease of use and ease of training.
Can anyone provide information regarding this matter?
Thanks.

Like any product, there are risks, or there have been holes in the past.
Microsoft is as active as anyone in patching their holes.
So, if you are running the latest server extensions, and the server has all of the service packs then you will minimise any problem.
Perhaps your admins dont have the ability to recognise that fact?
