Getting rid of the feather effect - 4/13/2002 17:50:57
Hi,

How do I get rid of the feather effect in FW4 when creating my images?

1. I create a new image in bitmap mode
2. I use the lasso or oval tool to create an effect eg make a rounded corner
3. I fill in an area with the paintbucket
4. It immediately has a feathered effect

I tried setting the marquee-feather to 0 and changing fill in values with no difference.

Can you set me straight please - it must be something simple I am missing.

Thank you,
Herman

I'm not sure what you mean by "feathered" effect, but check and see that the paint bucket is set to "solid" instead of some sort of pattern.

If you don't see the fill box on screen click on window menu at the top of the program and put a check mark next to fill.

Thanks for responding - I have tried this with no effect.

Here's an example to view what I mean:

I would like a solid line instead of the feathered look I am getting now.

I used bitmap-oval tool-fill in

Thank you,
Herman

Is edge set to feather then? I just now noticed that option, because I've never used it. I always have it set to anti-alias. Now that I'm trying to figure out whats going wrong for you I'm seing all kinds of options I've never explored before.

I've never used FW so this may be an useless post but that almost looks like a bevel rather then a feather.

THANKS to YOU FOLKS, I could figure it out:

I had Windows-tool options-oval marquee tool-edge-set to feather

changed it to anti alias to fix the unwanted feather problem.

Thnaks for your precious time.

Thanks for explaining this vision2000. Like I said before I'm finding all kinds of things I never thought to use and this could come in handy.

Very good, Paula! That's what I was going to say, except it looked also like a linear blend.
