Photography Site - 4/15/2002 9:02:48
Hi Everyone,

Threw this together over the weekend. Seemed to never end. Not that big, just took forever. Comments would be really appreciated..Especially from dial up users.

Ever have those moments where you look at something and you realize it's good and you know it's really well done, and you still don't like it?

I love the curvy thing, the navigation, the intro, the client albums idea... all of it.

Except I hate the colour. I detest that rose coloured background. Lots

So, since that's neither here nor there anywhere except my own little universe, I think you still get full marks for excellence in design!

I would have to agree with DarlingBri on everything. It's quite a lovely design, but the color scheme.... well, it just doesn't do it for me. Plus the background color seems to wash out the colors of the photos. But other than the colors, WELL DONE!

Hmm,

Its the color the customer wanted.. Honestly, I didnt even think anything of it..

Seemed like a classy wedding color to me... Very interesting?

Would it turn you off of if you were thinking of using their service?

I seriously doubt that the color of their (well-designed) website would deter me from using their service, if I were so inclined to use such a service, which I'm not but that's beside the point. Bad design, atrocious grammar and spelling errors would be more likely to deter me, but such is not the case here.

Maybe you could find out what the popular colors for weddings are currently? (I could be wrong but I doubt that pink/rose is one) To me pink makes me think of horrible bridesmaid's dresses. Too cutesy and definitely a turn off. I think a more "sophisticated" color would be more appealing. Of course pink is probably a 'love it or hate it' kind of color and I am in the 'hate it' category...

I think the colors are great for this site. But, then it really doesn't matter at all what any of US like - does the client like it?

I will add a little thought here. I dislike the pink also, but then I never ever was a pink sort of person.

You are right about bridal magazines - I have never been an avid reader of those but had occasion to look at one recently because my sister is doing the graphic design on it. Wall to wall pink. Sells like hotcakes.

And there in hangs the tale I think. Most men are not crazy about pink, even my 3 year old son calls it a 'stupid girl color'. And my guess is that 'pink' sort of gurrls are statistically less likely to be hanging around web design forums - around here you get the tecky - ok, geeky - sort, who are not lovers of pink.

Tha's my theory anyway.

Hello Katherine,

Well said.. The client told me that almost 90% of users asking to be contacted from their old site were women..

They wanted the site to be taylored to not only women, but that type of women if that makes sense.. and Yes, Gil.. They love it..

Thank goodness...

Troy

Dear godshall2:

Well, I wish I could "throw together" a site like that in a weekend!

My wife and I used to both work in the Wedding business: tuxedos for me and bridal gowns for her. We both were very impressed with your site. The site is "probably" great in that your customer has the final say because he/she knows the market better than anyone else and the site, including color, is a reflection or extension of him/her.

As for color discussion, it's NOT Pink. A more correct industry description is DUSTY ROSE.

I hate pink but I kept thinking wow for a pink site I REALLY like it. Very classy and professional! The only think I didn't like was the black text on the FAq page. seems it should be white links and lt pink text. And OH MY GOD that white page off site just smacks ya in the eyeballs! Those turkeys need to tone that down!

Please. No more "thrown together sites". You're making the rest of us ill!

Katherine, I think you are right! Good new poll. What colors do geeky women like

Troy,
I don't really like pink either but I think it fits the site. Glad the customer liked it.It is beautifully done.

Couldn't you lie and tell us it at least took you a week?

I have no problem with the color at all. Looks good to me.

Great site!

Okay as the Mother of a bride to be (in August) I have visited every wedding site on the web, and we chose which photographers to interview from the web and yes I am a geeky gurl so here is my opinion for what it is worth.

I clicked past the intro as fast as I could. I am looking for a photographer I don't want to see flash I don't have time for flash. The pink is fine, NOT my favorite color but... one of the highest traffic wedding gown sites on the web is the ugliest pink you have ever seen and we ordered bridesmaids dresses from them.

When I am looking for a photog. I want to see samples of his/her work AND I want to see packages and prices. I am not going to waste my time calling him/her if I don't have an idea of what it is going to cost. Price may not affect whether I call or not and we all know price has nothing to do with the quality, but I want to know in advance if we are talking $1000 for 6 hours or $5000 for 4 hours. How many proofs do I get?? How many prints and what size are included?? Do I get the negatives?? etc. The FAQ's are great.. it answers some of the questions clients may have.

In the end I am going to choose my photographer because he/she has a great portfolio and he/she is friendly! There is nothing worse than a crabby photographer at a wedding reception.

I think it's very classy. The Rose color is very nice and personally I like pink. (There, I said it and I'm not ashamed!) It's a very nice shade, not too Pepto Bismol and not overly cute. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I wish I could throw together something like that. Great job.
