excluding folders from searches - 4/10/2001 23:15:00
In setting up a search form, how do I exclude a folder from being searched? Right now, I have something likewww.ourdomain.com/folder/search.htm for the search page. However, I also have a sub-folder in this folder that I do not want to search. So how do I set it up so the search will not search the files within that subfolder? I'm using FrontPage 98.

In that thread, the following was the answer"You cannot do this with FP search. You can though with the free site search available from www.atomz.com - have a look at it." OK, I looked at the site and I didn't see one byte of information that suggested this service was free...nor did I see anything I was asking for. Thanks anyway, I guess I'm stuck.

Hi Nate,I believe that I read on these forums somewhere that if you create a new subdirectory and name it like this... _newdir Making sure to use the underscore that FP search will ignore it. Again this is from memory but worth testing. Hope this helps, Brian ------------------ Work hard, play fair, stay sane

I thought the same thing, but apparently it was not working because my pages in my _folder were still showing up. So I'm just going to have to add the noindex meta tag to the top of all pages I don't want searched. No big deal.
