too many charaters in a hyperlink - 4/22/2002 10:17:16
I am using an ASP page to execute an update to my database. I wish to populate the fields in the update form with all of the current info so that the user can decide to change certain fields which have incorrect info or simply add info to empty fields. I am using a hyperlink to pass the current info from a page which is displaying all of the current info and I receive a message from FP200 that there are too many characters in the hyperlink. is there a better way to pass the info from the page displaying the current info to the form page?

Thanks

Couldn't you just pass the RecordID (or other primary key) and populate the form fields with a DB call? IOW, have the DRW (or ASP code) pre-fill the form. Just pass the ID in the hyperlink...

Hope it helps...

I've tried just passing the ID, but without success. Only those parameters passed with the hyperlink appear on the update form.

With FP2000 and the FP2000 Server Extensions, I have been able to surpass the 255 character limit in the hyperlink. But, I'm curious as well to learn of a better way.

Nope, sorry, it's on our Intranet. And, I can now get > 255 character hyperlinks. Could have been the FPSE 2000, FP 2000, or Access 2000 that did it.
