Ways text can be included in a site FP2000? - 4/30/2002 8:07:04
Q. Can anyone tell me why the html code behind a FrontPage 2000 site does not seem to include the text that appears on the site? I don't see the actual text. Nor do I see a reference to a file name as the source of the text.

(I am rather anxious to understand the answer to this question!)

My understanding of ways in which text can be included on a web page:

1. Type the text in Page View into Normal window. (in HTML window you see your text recorded)

2. From menu choose Insert, File, then browse for file to include on the web page (in HTML window you see your text recorded).

3. From menu choose Insert, Component, Include Page, then browse for a file you want to include (in html window you don't see the text recorded, but you do see a reference to 'Including' another htm file)

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Do you have a site we could look at? URL please.

Thanks!

You should be able to see the text. It may be hard to find. You won't see the contents of an include.

There is a setting for color coding and it's in Tools-->Page Settings-->Color Coding (tab)

maybe the text is set to white.

Thankyou Swirl & Caywind for your efforts at helping!

1. Can't give you the url Swirl because it's an intranet site.

2. Caywind, I know you don't see Include contents, but you should see the name of the file you are including when you look at the HTML tab in FrontPage.

3. Caywind, I can see the text on the Normal tab in FrontPage, but not in the HTML tab in FrontPage, so I don't think the problem is the text colour which is black in Normal view.

What you described in your first post has the text being created through an "include page". You will be able to see the text in "normal view" but while in "HTML view" it will appear like this...

<!--webbot bot="Include" U-Include="header.htm" TAG="BODY" -->

where U-Include="" will equal the "include page" of your choice.

Hope I got your question right.
