PSD woes - 4/30/2002 12:25:24
Hi - someone sent me a psd file for their web site. I need to pull apart the file - their logo - in order to incorporate it into a SWISH movie.

I don't use Photoshop that much (well, not at all really) and don't know how to ungroup images. Is this even possible or do I need to ask for the individual components that make up this image separately?

Hope that's clear. Essentially, this drawing is a star overlayed with some text. I need the star separated from the text.

If they sent you the whole .psd file, you should be able to view / select the individual layers of the graphic without doing anything to the file.

If they have "flattened" the file already then you're out of luck there.

But you should be able to crop out the portion of the graphic you want, copy and paste into a new file and modify away!

When you're done, use File > Export to get a .gif out of it, or save a copy as a .jpg or .png file if that's your preference.

Is this a PS 5 or newer file?

If it's a PS 5 I'd be happy to take a look at it for you. Email it to me, let me know what it is you want cut out...

In Photoshop, go to window, layers. A new pallet will open showing each item on its layer. You can simply hid the layers you don't want by clicking on the icon on the far left of the layer. This makes them visible or invisible. Once you have hidden everything you dont' want, simply do a file, save as and select the file format you want to have.
