Password popup on word.docs - 4/30/2002 18:54:21
I have recently made a web for my school. I've have hyperlinks to some very important word docs. Everything is loaded up on a server with FP exetensions. When somone clicks on the hyperlinks, a passwordbox pops of, and if the person simly clicks "ignore" (or whatever it says in English, I'm from Norway)the doc loads. Is there any way to avoid having the popup? (I guess it asks for user name and password for the webserver, but I've seen other websites which also have docs, but no popup!

In Word go to file, Save As, Tools, General Options You will see some **** in the Password to Open, Password to Modify delete those. Also if the Read only box is checked, uncheck it. If that doesn' t work look under Tools, Protect Document. The last resort is to Contact the person that wrote the document and get the password from them. I have gone through this process many times. When ever I try and post a manual for my hospital I get the Password box pop up. Try to explain to the folks that no one will be able to save changes to the server except for those that have rights, in my case, just me and my boss. Hope this helps.
