Anybody Using a Dedicated Server? - 5/2/2002 7:45:14
I'm about to consolidate all the web sites I manage on a daily basis. I've got 12 that are located helter skelter right now and I wnat to get them all in one place. I've been looking around for a reliable and hopefully reasonable cost ISP that offers dedicated servers. So far the best deal has been here: http://www.rackshack.net/specscompaq.asp the Compaq Package 1. The 400 gig bandwidth is pretty inviting, never have to worry about running over my limit. The server hardware looks to be sufficient too. Of course service and up time rule and that's the unkown here. Any body use this ISP, or have one that they recommend?

www.crystaltech.com offers dedicated servers. They are excellent with hosted sites, and I imagine they are just as good with dedicated servers. ====== Doug G ======

I have had a dedicated sever with Datapipe for almost 3 months now and, once I got over the horrible hump of moving some 50 sites, it is just bliss. Support has been consistently fast, friendly and of a high standard, and the server performs well. I could only recommend them highly based on what I have experienced so far. http://www.datapipe.com One point though - forget the EasyAdmin servers. I thought they seemed a bargain but it turns out that when you set up a site on one you can either publish to it using FP OR upload via FTP but not both. I don't mean that if you do both it will cause a problem, I mean it canot be done. I have a RedHat Linux server with an Ensim control panel and it is very very flexible and makes running a heap of sites very simple indeed. Hi, Left field/ an aside but thought worth mentioning. Make sure that all the site you consolidate do NOT have links pointing to each other. SE's will frown on this and some will toss all sites out. Google also has been known to drop PR of all sites also. They pick up that they are on the same shared IP and look at it as low level spam on the SE. Brian Work hard, play fair, stay sane
