going crazy with server extensions - 5/6/2002 15:31:37
Please help!! I cannot for the life of me figure out what I am doing wrong. I have a server at home...connected with a dsl for my website. I use FP with extensions. When I am at work and open frontpage I cannot open my website. I want to publish from work to home. Publish to web is grayed out. When I open reports it says no files to publish. what am I doing wrong? I am using frontpage 2000 with the extensions that came with the cd. Can some step through the process including what settings my web server needs to complete the process? I have been in several forums but cannot find detailed info. Thanks in advance gvg

1st, when at home, from FP open the site on the work server, and publish to home. Enjoy! It's your endeavor!

What is the server? Apache? IIS4? IIS5? Router? Domain name? DNS server? quote: I use FP with extensions. When I am at work and open frontpage I cannot open my website. I want to publish from work to home.
To open type http://domainname.com and then you can publish back to your work machine. quote: Publish to web is grayed out. When I open reports it says no files to publish. what am I doing wrong? ok guys maybe I am lost but I cannot publish from work to home. I don't know if I have iis 5.0 setup correctly with the server extensions. My site is up and running but I want to edit it while at work. Is this possible? GVG

Hi, I have to ask, no offense intended, can you view your website from work or anywhere else? I have W2K Pro, IIs 5 and DNS running at home but I do not have it setup to be viewed by the outside world. My internal IP address is a using private IPs. Just thinking out loud here, Brian Work hard, play fair, stay sane

Really? I would think it required http://domainname.net/ quote: and yes I can view the site from work it is published to the web and can be seen.
So, from work - you open FP, open web and enter http://domainname.net/ and it will not open? Post the URL and maybe we can see something... Gil Harvey The Host Factory Resellers are our Specialty Find a Web Professional

nope..won't open... the I go to open web...and it wants me to look at c:\ locally but I type in my url and it says the folder isn't accessible. Now a co-worker says that I need to add my url site in add network place. Unfortunately this doesn't work either. It has to be something set on the server. Thats why I wanted to know what server settings needed to be done to use this funtion in frontpage. still goin nuts here GVG

Agree with Gil, much more info needed here. I will assume its IIS 5 on w2kpro? What is the error message? 404? You can open the site from a web browser, when you are on the site have you tried File-->Edit with Frontpage from the browser? The server doesn't report that the FP extensions are running...but that may not be accurate...checked it at www.netcraft.com Fight the Spam! http://awebmasters.net/antispam.htm Edited by - caywind on 05/10/2002 12:05:17
