Why are my pictures blurry/fuzzy? - 5/9/2002 1:34:49
Please help me, I am a beginner/novice at using FP2000. I put together a website for my friends band and the pictures look weird. I don't know how to clear them up. What is the remedy? Here is what it looks like: http://www.kenyongrey.com Thank you! **Terry

Hi, Did you resize the image in any way? It looks like the width has been expanded. When you started this page how did you bring the image into it? Brian Work hard, play fair, stay sane

Make sure, if you change the size of the picture within FrontPage, that you RESAMPLE the picture. There is a tool bar button that looks like a small picture with arrows pointing at it. The picture must be selected, for this to work. When you go to save the picture, make sure you save it as another file name if you want to use the same photo in the same site, otherwise all of that file will take on the qualities (sizes etc.)of the one. In other words, you will have the same picture on the site, but with slightly different file names. Hope this helps, MomX4

-Hello Paula, Brian, & MomX4! Thanks for your input. As for your questions: 1) I used MGI Photosuite II 2)I did resize the pictures and did resample them. 3)I inserted the pics using the tool bar "insert picture from file" and selected the picture from file on computer. Then I save them as "embedded files" on the web. Another question: I originally scanned the pictures on a Canon Canoscan FB620U @ 200dpi. Is there a preferred scan resolution to use for pics on the internet? Also, should I use a different image editing program? ie Microsoft Image Composer 1.5 or Adobe Photoshop 5.0 ? Once again, thanks for all your input! **Terry

Terry, Photosuit will work fine. I think Brian is right on the picture in Lyrical Insights. You need to be sure that the constrain aspect ratio button is marked (it may be called something else in Photosuite) If a picture is 4x6 it has to be enlarged using the same ratio width to height. Also, I'm wondering if you are enlarging them from the scan. When you do that you can lose a lot of quality. Paula So much to learn......

By chance I just saw that problem when searching smartcomputing.com articles. Hope this helps. Problem: The quality of my JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) files once I import them into FrontPage is worse than they appear in my graphic-editing program. Is there any way to fix this? Solution: FrontPage is set by default to compress inserted images to minimize file size. If a file has already been optimized for the Web, the compression performed by FrontPage will cause noticeable quality degradation. To prevent overcompression, prior to saving the page, right-click the image you inserted and select Picture Properties from the resulting drop-down menu. Change the JPEG Quality setting to 100%, which will prevent FrontPage from performing any additional compression.

I use the same Canonscan software, and get much better results when scanning at 75 dpi. Remember browsers only can read 72 dpi. Also when setting up to scan try and select size at the time.

Thanks to everyone! I got it all figured out now. It was just as you said, FP was compressing my JPEGs too much. By setting the JPEG quality to 100%, the pics will not be lossy anymore. I'm glad I found this site! Once again, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! **Terry

Terry, quote: the pics will not be lossy anymore
The pictures will still be lossy format if they are jpg. Generally if you get them looking good and then compress them in the image editor you can leave the FP compression alone. There was a large discussion on this some time ago but I ran search and could not find it. Maybe someone else has it bookmarked. Paula So much to learn......
