Is there a quick easy way to capture still images from mpeg video files?

Don't Worry.
I've worked it out for myself. In the unlikely case that anyone reads this (or gives a toss) this is what I did.
1. Freeze frame on video playback.
2. ctrl + print screen.
3. open corel photo paint or similar.
4. open new file from clipboard.
5. cut and copy the part of the image you are interested in.
6. open new file from clipboard (again)
7. resample to desired size and resolution.
8. export as jpg or gif

This gives you reasonably good quality images especially if you use the final image at a smaller size than it was originally.

A simple thing but it made me happy.

It makes me happy too. I've been wondering this also but haven't had time to look for a solution. Thanks!

Sorry no one was able to help, but I'm really glad you figured out a simple way to do this. Anyone else have other ways? Just curious... I have a feeling the printscreen idea is probably the best.

Another way...

I use a program called SnagIt http://www.techsmith.com SnagIt will copy to the clipboard only the part of the screen desired. Then paste into your favorite image editor (I use PhotoShop).

Same results, just a different method.

Enjoy! It's your endeavor!
