XHTML - 5/10/2002 18:55:58
I am currently using FP 2000 (and I love it), but recently I read that 2002 has an XHTML conversion feature. As I understand, XHTML is where web pages are headed, and I am definitely interested in learning and applying it.

Can someone please inform me about this conversion feature, and about other XHTML features included in 2002? I could find nothing in Microsoft's website about it.

Hello Axacta! The conversion is fairly simple. While viewing your web page in html view, right click and select Apply XML Formatting Rules. This will update the html to now utilize the proper closing tags for XHTML.

Before you make the jump, you need to make sure that your code is clean and ready to be converted. You'll need to make sure that you've reformatted all of your html to use lower case. You'll need to validate those pages to make sure that all of your closing tags are in order, especially </p> and </li>. Once that is done, then you can easily do the XML Conversion.

I wouldn't be too anxious to do the conversion. Unless you absolutely have to have XHTML to support backend XML features. Take your time and validate the first page before you move on to other pages.

pageoneresults,

It is indeed a small world. Recognize this?

>P.S. I'm using FrontPage and it has a neat little feature that allows me to do page by page removal of all formatting tags including but not limited to the <font> tag. I just open the page in Normal View, select all, and remove formatting, its that simple!<

It was you at WW that I read about this from.

Thanks for the response - next time I'll just stickymail you... :)

Ah-ha! You've been sent to spy on me! ;)

That was a very recent thread too! Welcome to the Outfront. At least here we can discuss FP and not have the *nix geeks beat us up!

pageoneresults,

I have been kind of secluded from the FP bashing up until recently, but I am beginning to understand what you mean.

I just converted my site (partly) to CSS and I like it alot. Now I'm beginning to investigate XML and XHTML. It turns out my site already conforms to what you suggested - it just seemed logical in the first place - I guess I lucked out. I probably won't jump into XHTML soon, but I am definitely going to investigate it. Thanks for the advice.
