Index Server and Frontpage Forms - 5/14/2002 9:32:43
The search forms on my Intranet have mysteriously stopped working. The Forms are stock FP 2000 search pages coming off a win2000 server w/ FP Serv Ext (V. 4.0.2.4426)
The error I get is a simple "No Documents Found" when I run a search. I am able to run a search from within the Index Server Manager and from the iis sample ASP pages, once I've specified an Index. However I have about a half dozen FP generated search forms on various webs within my intranet. Is this a Server Extention Issue? Anyone?

Thanks

tried recalculate web? here some juicy stuff from a MS paper somewhere...
quote:
Assuming you are using Win2K and IIS5 on a server box, open the
MyComputer | Manage | Services and Applications | Indexing Services |
(Your Virtual Web Server). Select your VWS, right-click it, Choose
Properties, and when the properties panel opens, then choose the
tracking tab. Set your VWS as the WWW web server. OK that, then make
sure that your subweb is entered as one of the directories, and check
to see that all files have been indexed.

Yes, all webs have been recaculated. Corrupt catalogs have been rebuilt. Front Page server extentions checked, all the by the book stuff I could find (short of reg hacks). Index server seems to be working fine, but the FP bot is hosed, that's my best guess anyway. Is there a way to find/edit or replace just that search bot on the server?

Could this be the problem?

I'm looking... in the meantime I remember seeing a huge list of words that don't get indexed. any chance that you're searching for those?

No, these were all searches that were working fine until two weeks ago, then the forms started returning no results. We're Indexing .htm files and .pdf file. I have the Adobe index server filter installed. Like I said if I run a search when I'm in the IIS console I get results, just not when FP forms run the search. In my html code for the search page use index server was set to 1, I changed it to 0 for the hell of it, but got the same result.....very odd.

Thanks Caywind. I got....we got it fixed last night. When the indexes were re-created the web server was never selected correctly (something you mentioned in your first reply), once I went back and set that it began working again. It's just god-aweful slow at this point. When the web server was correctly selected, Index server added it's default directories to the index, this includes the C: drive. Is that normal? Do I need to have all the default directories indexed? I noticed the 'to be indexed' doc count is over 16 million.....I'd like to slim that down a bit.

only 16 million. Yes, i think you can remove the index of the entire drive. I have posted to the newsgroup and should have an answer by Sunday PM

The original catalogs, web and system were present. But both had been corrupted. We had deleted and rebuilt the Web catalog as it was originally. When we set the WVS as the web server it worked, but added in a ton of what I guess are default directories, including the C: drive. I was hesitant to remove theose directories from the index in case they were somehow required.

hey tommcatt, I think the MS guys are avoiding the question, (they already answered everything above and below it), let's give them a little while and see what happens...

here's the goop...

Delete that catalog. Now, the first thing you do is Stop Indexing
> Service. Right click the server icon , choose tasks, then stop, or use
> the dropdown Action menu. Now create a catalog, and add the directories.
> When that is all done, start Indexing Services, and you should be able

hope it helps!
