Server without FP extensions but with password - 5/17/2002 14:04:22
Hi,
I have a web with subwebs which are updated by different people. My host server doesn't support FP extensions. How can I have individual passwords to upload these subwebs? This to avoid that they mess up the other subwebs. Is there somewhere a good CGI script? My hosting company doesn't provide somthing like that. :( Any other idea?

hey Jan, good to hear from you again. This is another biggie! What kind of content is being updated? simple text entries or full on graphics and design changes? If it's NT I think you should look at the Spooky login. If it's Linux there are some good javascripts I've seen at:

http://javascript.internet.com/passwords/

they state that they aren't a security solution but just meant to keep people in the right places....

If you are lucky enough to be on a Unix/Linux server: http://bignosebird.com/passwd.shtml

Hi there, sorry for the late reply but I was abroad for a while. The subwebs contain mainly text and some gif's. The host runs on Unix.
Thanks for your hints/links!.

I just tried these links. But all scripts are based on the the fact that only authorised people may READ the subweb. In my case anyone may read but only authorised people are allowed to change the content (upload wite updates).

Any other ideas?
