Word and Excel doc act FuNnY in FrontPage Webs - 5/17/2002 15:23:04
Word and Excel documents act funny when stored and retrieved inside a FrontPage 2000 website on a Netscape Enterprise Server.

Word documents request a network logon not BEFORE launching, but when hitting the BACK button on the browser after displaying them! As a work-around, I put an edit password on, which eliminates this weird network request. However, nobody is really ever prompted for the edit password. (it seems to be ignored)

Excel documents also act funny too - they never request passwords for open or edit even if those passwords are put on the file. Also, the second person viewing the document is unable to view it...unlike on a file server where the second person automatically has the option 'open as read only' Any ideas?

All bets are off mixing Netscape and MS. What kind of browser are you using?

Hi,

I knew I had run into this before, just took me a while to come up with the link...

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q225234

It is a service pack issue for MS Office.
