Usage processing failed FP2002 - 5/22/2002 8:04:13
Hi: Quick question: After running successfully for a week, I received the following e-mail this morning: From: webserver@xx.org Date sent: 21 May 2002 00:00:04 -0400 To: <webmaster@xx.org> Subject: Usage processing for http://www.xx.org failed. The following errors were generated: Usage processing failed to complete normally. Processing started: 21 May 2002 00:00:00 -0400 Processing ended: 21 May 2002 00:00:00 -0400 Number of log files processed: 0 Number of lines processed: 0 Total number of hits: 0 Q: What are the likely causes of usage analysis failure? * Would clearing/deleting the log files be a good starting point? Thanks Tom G, Sr.

RE: Usage processing failed FP2002 - 6/10/2002 16:09:03
I'm having the exact same problem except my reports have been running flawlessly for months and just up and quit last Tuesday. I did find a KB Article (q294395): http://support.microsoft.com/search/preview.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q294395 I have, following the directions, deleted the process accounting sections of the last entry and I've turned off process accounting. Since I can't figure out how to make it spit out a report at will, I'll wait until tomorrow to see what it sends me. Susan Dennis
Seattle, WA
http://susandennis.com

Duh... if I set the report time to now, I can push a report... I followed the instructions in the KB article. Unselected the Process Accounting and deleted the lines from the logfile for yesterday. Then I set the email to go out in 30 minutes. Still got a failure. Then I tried to move all of the log files to a new folder. Two wouldn't go - last night's and the one from Tuesday (first day of failure). I rebooted and was able to delete those two. Set the report to go out in 15 mins and VOILA! Success!!! I forgot to click on the website so there were no results but the email said that usage statistics were compiled successfully. I've now set the email to go out again tonight at midnight - the regular time. And we'll see. If that works, I'm going to put the Process Accounting stuff back in and declare victory. --------------------------- latest and last news: Report came in - no errors. I put the process accounting stuff back in (although I still don't know what it's about) and got a successful report out of that so I guess it was just those two corrupted files that caused the problem. All is working now.. --------------------------- Susan Dennis
Seattle, WA
http://susandennis.com Edited by - susandennis on 06/11/2002 15:33:55

Oh Tom G, Sr., I wouldn't leave you in suspense! ;) but I am glad I waited... Report is set to go off at midnight every night and email to me. After I finished fiddling with it the other day, I reset it to the above and left it along. First full day, email said: -------------------------------- New data has been added to your web(s) for the time period from 10 Jun 2002 23:59:59 -0700 to 12 Jun 2002 23:59:59 -0700. Open your web in FrontPage to view updated usage information. The following warnings were generated: Warning: data lost processing ex020611.log. Not enough information is being logged. The following fields are missing from the log file: URI Stem (cs-uri-stem) Protocol Status (sc-status) Processing started: 13 Jun 2002 00:00:00 -0700 Processing ended: 13 Jun 2002 00:00:04 -0700 Number of log files processed: 2 Number of lines processed: 844 Total number of hits: 790 ------------------------------- Number of log files proceessded: 2 ?????? I was so busy yesterday, that I just read it and sighed and put 'fix stats' back on my ToDo list' Then... this morning... remember now, I didn't touch a thing: ------------------------------- New data has been added to your web(s) for the time period from 12 Jun 2002 23:59:59 -0700 to 13 Jun 2002 23:59:59 -0700. Open your web in FrontPage to view updated usage information. Processing started: 14 Jun 2002 00:00:00 -0700 Processing ended: 14 Jun 2002 00:00:02 -0700 Number of log files processed: 1 Number of lines processed: 216 Total number of hits: 213 ----------------------------------- And the numbers look about right - this is an intranet for my company (about 45 employees) and the numbers usually land between 200 and 300. So... that's what's happening here... Susan Dennis
Seattle, WA
http://susandennis.com
