rwren -> Why can't I add a page banner??? (5/24/2002 15:28:09)

I have existing pages that I want to add a page banner to. When I try to, the only thing that appears is the following message. "[Add this page to the navigation structure to display a page banner here]" When I go to Navigation view, I see the page in the structure, or at least I think I do. What am I not doing? or doing wrong?

Have you built the banner on the new page yet? I wonder if the page that says

quote:
"[Add this page to the navigation structure to display a page banner here]"

is the banner page, but you haven't added the banner to it yet???

Could you elaborate a little for a newbie like me? First I'm selecting Insert, then Page Banner. Next, I'm prompted with a Page Banner Properties box. I select Text, and then Ok. (note: there is a blocked field named Page Banner in the Properties box, I can't help but think that it needs to be filled in, but I can't because it's blocked)

Which version of FP are you using?

Did you click on Insert > Web Component > Included Content > Page Banner? (FP 2002)

When you open the "Page Banner" page, do you see the text that says "Add this page to the navigation structure..."?

If so, then you need to delete the text and add the graphic, or content, that you want to appear as your banner.

It sounds like the banner is there, it just needs to be configured to look the way you want it!

If this doesn't work you might try using SSI (Server Side Include) there is some helpful info here : http://wdvl.com/Authoring/SSI/Intro/index.html

Hi, rwren.

Here's what I did on FP 2000 and it worked fine it should be the same or at least similar in 2002.

Go to Insert>>Page Banner

Then you get a dialog box that will give you the option of picture or text. Leave picture selected and type whatever you want to appear on the banner in the text box.

Then just choose OK.

As I said, this works for me in 2000 and I would think it whould be the same or similar in 2002. Good luck.

Well I figured it out. As I said earlier, the text field was blocked out so I couldnt type anything in it. What I had to do was go to navigation view and open view folders and drag the folder to the navigation view. (What confused me the most is that the page in question was already showing in the Navigation view) So essentially there were two of the same pages in the navigation view, one that was created in Page view and the newly created one in Navigation. After I did this, I went back to page view and inserted the banner. After all this pain, the banner from the theme sucks.

Ah, I see it now! I haven't played with this function much.

I'm getting the dialog box to come up... but FP isn't inserting the graphic on the banner, just the text that I type into the text box...

Looks like I'm having the same trouble you are, or something similar.

I'll try playing a bit more to see if I can give you some better feedback... sorry I'm not much help so far...
