Why is the font wrong?? - 5/28/2002 13:15:34
Please excuse me, I am a big time newbie.
Okay 2 problems:
1. Why isn't the font that I selected the one that shows up online? Is it because the font isn't on the host server? I tested it in my browser and it was fine, but when I viewed it on another computer it wasnt the right font.
2. Also, I inserted a gif and placed text on each side of it. When i view it on the 2nd computer, the gif is partially on top of the text, however when I viewed it on my home computer it was fine. What can i do to correct this problem?

A font can only be viewed if it is installed on the viewing computer - the server doesn't matter. That's why it's best to not specify any font and let the viewer decide. At the very least only specify font families that are pretty common - Arial, Verdanda, etc.

As for the gif/text thing, can you post a URL?

2) What browsers are each workstation/PC using and also what version?

Probably going to find two different versions if not two different types of browsers would be my guess.

In order to see the font that you choose, you must be on a computer that has that same font. It's not the server that needs the font installed, but rather visitors to your site need to have it on their computer. Since this is difficult to predict who has what font. You should go with some of the standard types. (times new roman, arial). As for your other question about the graphic. Do you have an URL that we can go to?. That way someone can pinpoint the problem by looking at it.

I am using the same browser version at both computers. When I inserted the gif, I made sure to center it in the page. Also, when I reduce the size of the window, the gif goes offcenter badly. Obviously, reducing the window size shouldnt cause the graphics to off center. Regarding the font issue, my main font is trebuchet MS and is viewable. The more unique fonts were in a couple of headers. I think I will merge the text with the gif clipart to make a logo and that should make my font viewable. Is there any better solution? by the way, here is the url http://www.harmonybchurch.org/ClusterGroups.htm

My .02...

If you really want to make sure that your 'special' fonts are viewable, convert the text to a .gif and display it that way... otherwise you will always be taking the chance that viewers won't have the fonts you have and thus won't see the page with design the way that you intended...

As for incorrect display of text/gif... have you inserted the components in tables? that's the best way I've found to keep things looking the way you intend

Thanks Taterhead. I didn't even think about using tables. Duh. I guess that's why I'm a newbie.
