XP and FP2000 creating subwebs - 5/29/2002 0:07:06
I recently installed XP Home and am using FP2000. I have read many of the other messages and am still a bit confused. I can preview and publish any of the webs I currently have on my machine. They all work the same as before. But I tried to make a new web and it will not let me. Can not find ?? on port 80.

I reinstalled Server extensions and no better. Do I need Pro and IIS to make the server extensions work, and if so why can I publish webs? If I go to the office extensions manager it does not show any web folders.

Thank you

Allen, the official Microsoft take on the XPHome product is: No PWS or IIS support on this product. There are rumors of hacks to make them work on XPhome but no documented results that I can find. Frontpage 2002 does not need a web server to develop in but does need a service release or two. My fav is IIS on W2K but IIS on XPPro appears to work just fine.

I have found a funny thing, I can create a new web outside of the wwwroot folder with FP2000 and then drag it inside the folder and it shows up in the open web dialog box with the blue dot (that signifies web versus folder)

Also download analogx - simple web server and it seems to run on XP Home but does not seem to make the server extensions work.

I am wondering if I need to upgrade to Pro or just create new webs as above??

Any comments would be appreciated
Thanks
Allan

No unfortunately they still do not work so I guess Pro is the way to go
