Can't open FP - it hangs / freezes - 5/29/2002 23:56:31
fyi:
FrontPage can suddenly freeze when trying to open it. There is a file that is created each time FP is opened and it is accessed the next time you open it. If this file becomes corrupted, you'll hang at the opening screen and get a message that you are dangerously low on resourses. Reinstalling FP won't solve the problem plus it is unnecessary!
Solution is to find the file cmdui.prf and simply delete it. Then you can open FrontPage successfully and this file will automatically be recreated.
Never remove any files unless you trust the source....so, please read the article (Q265184) at support.microsoft.com which will verify this info is accurate.

You also want to search for *.web and delete them as well. The major difference between these two is this.
CMDUI.prf will hanf FrontPage at the FP splash screen.
*.web will hang FrontPage when you attempt to open a web. You may also get memory errors with the *.web issue.
CMDUI.prf is the file that contains the office toolbar config info and *.web are simply backup web files that really do nothing more than eat up a little space. When you search for *.web you will find a ton of files that all end in .web just delete them all. Hope this helps as well.
