Error Publishing in FP2002 - 6/1/2002 0:01:06
This one's a dozy... Using: FP2002 tried to publish a disk based web to my host that has FP Extensions and they ARE enabled. I click publish, put in my domain info it connects to the server, lists pages in the web then gives the error message: "The server sent a response which FrontPage could not parse. If you are trying to connect to a FrontPage server, check with the server admin to make sure FrontPage server extensions are installed properly." Hosts response in their forum was this happens when FTPing but I clearly indicated I did NOT FTP and no I also have the correct domain info. I cannot half the time get into the page live and when I last did listed as the home page was: index.html and my home page is default.htm. So I check within my broswer and notice alot of images are not showing up. I check from my other computer in my home, same thing, images missing, I have others check from their computers and low and behold, the pages are all there and all functioning. I opened the site live and tried the copy thing from the disk based to the live and that worked for 5minutes then gave the same error message. What in the world is going on? I am lost! HELP!!!! Webname: www.superiorenvirosolutions.com I am on a network with DSL as connection, I sit behind a linksys router. I will check that link out and forward to my host (hostica.com) and they do have FP2002 Extensions. Ne`Obliviscaris...Never Forget

ALSO My DSL provider is different from my host for my domain/website but thats the first instince I have seen any reference to my error message so we must be on the right track with looking at the firewall settings. Ne`Obliviscaris...Never Forget

server looks fine... I know there is a web based configuration for that DSL router but I'm not sure how to get to it. If you have the manual it may tell you how to set up for Frontpage. I'll tell you my experience here in my shop was that everything was wacky (FTP, AOL, Frontpage, etc...) until I got DNS configured properly. I'm not saying that you have to have a full blown internet name server, just DNS services somewhere, and I think the router can do that. I'm going to do a little research on the router. Let me know if I got too technical for U and I'll try to break it down. There is also an excellent treatment of DNS somewhere in this site... Fight the Spam! http://awebmasters.net/antispam.htm

I'll try to find info on the DNS you mentioned in the forums here. Manual didn't mention FP at all. This is the Linksys EtherFast DSL Model# BEFSR41 and the firmware is latest edition. Not familiar with DNS services for webpublishing so I'll def. need the technical "break down". Appreciate your help! Thank god for helpful people! Ne`Obliviscaris...Never Forget

The problem is in the router configuration. Go to the the linksys site http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?prid=20&grid=23 There are some pretty complex settings in the router that may need changing. Do you have a network person to help you? If not you can try their tech support, but post up here to verify first... Fight the Spam! http://awebmasters.net/antispam.htm

The thing that doesnt make sense with it being my router is that the first time I published the site a week ago I published and I could view the site on my broswer and all was fine. It wasnt until I went to do the updates that I first encountered the problems and the host said the extensions had become corrupted. So they reset them and as of last night I am still having the problems. Funnily I have another domain through them and tried to publish the site there..got over halfway through publishing all the pages and got the error message: The server unexpectedly closed the connection. Then I hit publish button again just to see what would happen and the error was back to: The server sent a response that FrontPage could not parse. ARRGGHH. The only network help I have is my husband who set up the router etc with the ISP/DSL provider. The Linksys site discusses FTP but I cant find anything relating to FrontPage..will have to keep digging. Theres a million reasons given at Microsoft for similiar error messages but none of the settings that cause it apply to us. Ne`Obliviscaris...Never Forget

Well I have fixed this problem..FINALLY! I uninstalled office completely. Reinstalled. Updated to SP1 manually. (http://notorious.dezines.com/articles/xpsp1.htm) Rebooted and opened my disk based web and Published. All the files transfered and no errors. When I opened my browser, IE6, all the images showed up this time as well. Guess it must have been something in the Office folder that got corrupted or something. Ne`Obliviscaris...Never Forget
