What do you think? - 6/3/2002 11:56:23
Almost no links are working, alt text to come etc etc

But what do you think so far?

I am especially interested to have really picky, picky comments on the copy, this is aimed at the small site owner/web designer - ie us - so comments from here have particular relevance.

Also load times - acceptable?

http://www.inkkdesign.com/liveservice/index2.shtml

Thank you in advance.

Wow, you sold me. How much .

Design: stunning. clear, concise, readable.

Load time: I'm not a very good indication because I've pumped mine up a little. Just so you know it was under 5 secs on my 512k

Content: Perhaps a little less tech, more simple explanation. I found myself carefully reading some of the features to make sure that I understood, (that might be what you wanted!)

makes me want to go back and do em all over!

Katherine,
Just a couple of things from a marketing standpoint....

quote:
Sophisticated for You

I don't think sophisticated is the right word here. Needs something like "power packed versatility for you" (the thesaurus and I have yet to come up with a really perfect word for it )

Also, the first thing any customer is looking for is the benefit to them to see if they want to read further. I would suggest moving the
quote:
The benefits of live customer service are clear - people who get good service will call again and buy again and they will tell their friends.
to the top and then following with the "live service desk" etc.

The site look is great!

Thanks people!

You are right Paula - that looks way better as the opening statement. And I lost 'sophisticated', powerful and flexible seems better?

You did say that you want "really picky, picky comments on the copy", right?

I think that maybe "up sell" and "cross sell" should each be hyphenated. They don't look quite right the way you have them.

You have 2 spaces between "service" and "will" in the paragraph that says "The benefits of live customer service are clear - people who get good service will call again and buy again and they will tell their friends."

Also, I think "plug ins" should be hyphenated.

There should be a comma after "fees" in "With a one time cost and no monthly fees can you afford to be without it?"

On your left navigation menu, I would do "Faqs" in all caps since it is an acronym, after all, and in lowercase the Q looks too much like a "g" and I don't think you want to go there.

Other than that, looks and loads great. I'm not really all that crazy about the color scheme, but that's just a personal thing.

Oops, missed one. There are two spaces between "download" and "a" in "Bring a personal touch to your website and build strong customer relationships. Download a free trial version today and see what Live Service Desk can do for your business."

Is that TOO really picky, picky?

On your Features page, the "Visitor Features" bullet items seem to be a different size font than the rest of the page (8pt vs 10 pt)?

OK, I'm done now.

Very nice! I found the load times acceptable via DSL. And it looks really sharp.

The only complaint I have is with the screenshot on the home page. It's so small, you can't really get anything out of it. I'd suggest making it bigger, or at least "magnify" a portion of it for some detail. For a customer service app it would help drive the point home if you showed a "real" interaction that the potential customer can relate to.

Once again thank you all, and Kokomo thank you for taking me literally on the 'picky' - those are just the sort of things that I needed.

I am happy enough with it now. For now. I think.

OK, My turn,

I think the design looks great. Love the buttons and rollovers. I think perhaps it could use a little more balance and depth. As much as I like it, its a little blank in areas.

Here are some ideas of what I meant. I hope they help but again it looks very nice as is...

I know, I know, but you said "be picky":)Keep in mind I spent all of 30 seconds but you'll get the idea...

Katherine,

The subtle changes work. One more suggestion which may, or may not.

Try boldfacing the first part of the firt line: "The benefits of live customer service are clear"

Also, I have a couple of questions about the graphics you created but will ask in the appropriate forum if I can't find info via a forum search.

Ooops, I inadvertly deleted the suggestions I made. I've been forced to use Netscape because of continual, seemingly unfixable, problems with IE 6.0. I rarely use Netscape, which doesn't show alt text. I clicked on the wrong icon.

Anyway, thanks for considering some of them.

Thanks Gail,

I got your very helpful suggestions before you deleted them, they did make a difference. I actually tried bold facing that - it looked odd, too heavy or something.

Ask away about the graphics - in the graphics formum maybe?? Or here if you prefer.

Troy, I love your changes but the client is happy with the current look and I am too lazy to remake all those graphics to show them anything new - plus I am getting a bit paranoid about load time. But thank you as always for applying your inimitable flair!

I thought so but didn't have time to test here first before suggesting you give it a try.

Thanks, Katherine. I'll ask in the Graphics forum where others would most naturally look if they have inquiries about the same techqniques. But besides working on a big project, my daughter (who lives 3000 miles away) is here for a short visit. Not quite sure when I'll get to posting the questions but I will.

I evidently saved the text file of the suggestions I made for Katherine, so I will repost. When I make or reply to long posts, I type it into notepad first.

--------------

Another fabulous site, Katherine.

Here are a few suggestions and comments.

The design and color are powerful and attractive. The layout is outstanding. Yet the graphics are strong and my eyes are drawn continually to the left of the screen, rather than to the the text which explains the service.

Something more, imho, needs to be done to draw the eye to the main text. I'm not quite sure what that is but here are a few off-the-top-of-my-head suggestions.

- see how it looks boldfacing the bulleted text (offer instant support to potential customers, etc.) or making the text slightly larger. I think it's now 10 point, try 12. If either of these work visually, you'd probably have to do some adjusting of the spacing between the bullets and Service Desk window.

OR

Try reversing the color of the bullets - the bullet would be orange, the line would be gold.

OR

Decrease the blank space between the bulleted text and the Service Desk window by about 1/4 inch. Don't know if I'd move the window towards the text, or the text towards the window. Probably the latter if the text layed out well.

OR

I'd try a small drop cap for the "T" of the first sentence (The benefits of live customer service are clear...). Somehow my eye goes right from the orange area to the boldfaced "Live Service Desk." My eye struggles to get to the very first sentence.

OR

Anything that will make the first paragraph area visually stronger.

Speaking of the first sentence, I'd take a litte creative advertising liberty to place more emphasis on "tell their friends."

The benefits of live customer service are clear - people who get good service will call again and buy again. And they will tell their friends.

OR

The benefits of live customer service are clear - people who get good service will call again, buy again and they will tell their friends.

12 seconds on a 56K modem using AOL at 10 p.m Eastern Standard Time (high net traffic). Nice image loading sequence.

Your load time was 15 seconds at 50.667KB. The site looks great. My main complaint is that I have no idea what this site is about until paragraph 2. Call me impatient (most internet users are) but I want to know what the site is about right away. I would swap paragraph 1 & 2. For me that would be a cleaner read.
