Ms K -> SubWeb Drama Continues (6/4/2002 17:31:54)

*****Warning this is a long post*****

My server is FP enabled so yea for me, but I cannot seem to publish my subwebs.

I have my main site, www.koncepts.net and then I purchased and new domain www.flirtdetroit.com and am forwarding it(flirtdetroit) to a subdirectory in the koncepts.net space. The forwarding URL is www.koncepts.net/flirt/.

Having created the new site, www.flirtdetroit.com, I attempted to publish it to www.koncepts.net/flirt/ and FrontPage keeps saying that there are no FP extensions on the site.

To resolve this issues (or so I thought) I used Frontpage to make the flirtdetorit.com site a subweb in koncepts.net and attempted to publish that way. I still got the same message.

Then I contacted my server administrator and he suggested I FTP the Subweb. I did, but now my forms are not working.

So now I have the option of making Flirt a sub directory of the koncepts site, but then there are issues with the domain forwarding. Trying to link my navigation applet and have things directed to Flitdetroit.com results in failure. Every page has to be listed as www.koncepts.net/flirt/. . . and this defeats of the purpose of purchasing the new domian in the first place.

I know this is a superlong post, but I have many questions.

1. Is this and issue with Frontpage or the server?

2. How can I resolve the navigation issue so that all the Flirtdetroit pages appear to be independent of Koncepts?

Keep in mind that I do not want to pay for additional hosting space because.

HELP ME PLEASE!!

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Just thinking out loud here...

When you FTP'd it up what did you FTP it to (address)?

If you bought a domain name why not open a new account for that doamin?

I see what you mean about the form submittal, it starts showing the full address at that point (Yes, I was Test test).

When I create sites I make them subwebs until the final publish (that way I can view it on my test domain and keep the clients domain clean). Now when I go to do my final publish I open the subweb directly and publish it to the true URL/IP. Are you opening the root web and trying to publish that way?

Sorry I could not help more.

Brian

While I could purchase another hosting account I was trying to avoid it. Both sites are for the same company that is just doing different events. Neither site uses that much space so it just makes since to save money and share the space. That's why I am trying to do the whole domain fowarding and subweb thing.

To answer your question, I FTP's to directly to the directory the web is kept in koncepts.net/flirt.

HI,

I am unsure what to say. The forms will never work if FTP'd out, unless you ditch the FP form bot and go with a script.

On the rest, I feel it is a server issue but I can not offer any factual information. I do exactly what you described. I make the directory a subweb. I then open the subweb directly. So if you have your root web, Koncepts, I would not open that. I would open the newly created subweb as a whole. I then publish from the subweb to the address.

Sorry I could not help you out more,

Brian

Thanks for trying to help. I agree it's a server issue and my choices are either to make them work with me, or move my business elsewhere.
