New Host Suggestions, please read. - 6/5/2002 12:28:23
Hi, I work for a small business that manufactures custom power supplies, and I've been their part-time webmaster at http://www.apxonline.com We have been using a local web host that also provided us with dial-up access a few years ago, because it was convenient for us. Since that time, they have moved, and our motivation for staying with them has diminished. My boss is interested in finding a new host for our website, and I have come here to inquire upon such. Basically we're interested in a host that tailors well to small businesses, offers virtual web hosting, and features that would be considered necessary to maintain the functionality of the site in its present and future state. I use FP2002 to edit the site, so obviously it would have to be FP-ready. If anyone is familiar with a good host that can offer these things at a competitive price, please point me in the right direction. In lieu of that, I'd also be interested in just knowing from a business point of view, exactly what I'm interested in, and what I'm not. Unfortunately, I've been out of the loop for awhile, so I'm not savvy with web hosting at all, which is why I'm here. :> I don't have a week to get acquainted with this perspective of web authoring. As a side note, I've bought the Spooky Login, and am in the process of implementing it, so I would need ASP, and I do use forms for sales inquiries, but I'm not sure if I had used scripts. In the future, I'm planning on integrating some information to and from a access database, and I also want to be able to set up a web-based method of allowing others in the office to update our reps page (adding, deleting, or modifying a rep page) without knowledge of html, because they're all pretty computer inept, and can't let them go near even FP. :P For me, this is a big undertaking, so if anyone has any advice or can show me an example of how to do this, that would also be great! Thanks much. :) -Chad Baum http://www.apxonline.com P.S. If this is in the wrong forum, let me know and I'll move it. :)

I would be sure to get a Linux/Apache host if you're going to have different people in and out of the site. Much easier to administer. Phil "I don't want parole; I'm too busy working on my web site." Charles Manson, 3/27/97 http://1awebhosting.com 1A Web Hosting for Frontpage.
