Frontpage saving word .htm files opened in FP 2000 - 6/6/2002 14:25:20
I am currently running version 4.0.2.2717 of fp2000 and version 9.0.2720 of word in office 2000. Now here is the problem. I save a word document in html format, the file size is 1.2 Mb. This file opens fine in IE. Open the file up in FP, click save. Now when file is opened in IE, it is incomplete. The file size from FP is slightky larger than the word output (about .5k). If I reopen the file saved from FP In FP i get an error. It removes Paragragh closing tags and adds Span tags. The error from FP is C...005 (access violation)

51 Use FrontPage's import feature. Enjoy! It's your endeavor! Chuck, the male ladybug. http://www.anthemwebs.com http://www.moderncabinetmaking.com

Word is a Word Processor used to produce documents for printing or viewing within Word - it does a horrible job of HTML documents. You'll find it much better to cut and paste the content from Word to Notepad and then to FP. Never, Never try to use the Word formating in a web file! Gil is right. Word does a terrible job at html. I have clients that write their content and then think they are doing me a favor by saving it as html. I sometimes spend hours cleaning up the mess it makes. Gene White Web Design, FP & DW Templates http://www.gwhitedesign.com

I can not just copy and paste all the content from a word file into a new FP file because when i do pictures and such are way out of place. However the web page that word made from the file is fine in IE just that I can not save it(untaouched, just opened) in FP. Thanks again.

51, trying to word this as gentle as I can; you're going to have to either: 1. Reformat the HTML document in FP using tables for the layout to get the "look" you need/want 2. Continue to use Word's "save as HTML" and suffer One of the biggest blunders MS ever made was put the Save as HTML option in Word - it simply does not work! 51, You can import files to a site using one of two ways. 1. Drag files into FPfrom elsewhere on your computer. 2. Select the folder that you want the file to be in. Choose Import from the File menu. A Dialog box will open: - Click the Add File button. This opens the Add File to Import List dialog box.
- Select the file or files that you wish to import.
- Click Open to Close (yes, Open to Close) the Add File To Import List dialog box and add the file to a list in the Import File to FrontPage Web dialog box
- For additional files, repeat as necessary.
- Click OK to add the files to your site.
None of the imported files are linked to your site. You can also incorporate from competing Web authoring programs. I answered your original question AND YOUR SHOUTING RESPONSE, but only you can determine whether it works for you. If the results aren't what you want. Follow the sage advice the others have offered. Enjoy! It's your endeavor!
