Stretch to fit - 10/3/2001 15:55:00
This is probably the wrong terminology but how can I design a site that will adjust it's width to fit any monitor? The rule of thumb is to design in 800 X 600 but why is it some sites (like the Outfront site) fits them all... while other sites look pushed to the left with tons of white space to the right on larger monitors? I bought and paid a great deal of $$$ for a custom template and it is a "lefty leaner" for sure and I do not want to make the same mistake again. At times it looks like it only fills half of the screen width.

Hi,

You can create a table that is 100% wide and it will fill the entire screen width. This is easier to do when you don't have much in the way of graphics.

It can still be done when there are graphics, but you have to take into account where the graphics will appear at higher resolutions, and so that the space can expand and contract. In other words, you may want to separate your table into thirds, the two outside cells being fixed sizes and then let the middle cell expand and contract.

Make sense?
