Krissy -> Deleting Guestbook Entry (6/11/2002 20:36:14)

VERY new to Frontpage, basically flying by the seat of my pants on this one. I added a guestbook to my site and finally got it working. Unfortunately now all of my "test" entries are showing and I don't want them. Is there anyway to delete an entry from the guestbook/guestlog once they are entered! Thanks for any guidance on this subject!

Kristin

Open up the site live within FP. Go to the page with the entries and make your modifications, then click Save.

Swoooosh

Ok Swoosh....back up the boat! LOL! Newbie here remember? What do you mean by "LIVE"? How does one open up live in FP? Thanks for your patience!

Welcome to the Outfront Forums.

Two methods.
1. In IE go to the site. Choose Edit With Microsoft FrontPage in the File menu.
2. Open FrontPage, Choose Open Web from the File menu, and enter the URL in the Folder Name and click open.

Enjoy! It's your endeavor!

Normally when you want to make changes in a web site you change the files on your computer and then upload the changes to the server that is hosting your site. When you edit a site live you log onto the host server and change the files there. In the case of the guest book, that is where those are, so that is where they have to be changed. It is easy. All you do is click open, and where it asks for file name type in the url of your website (you need to be online) you will get the same username/password box you get when you publish changes to your site. Then just go to the page you want and make the changes. You can do a control - S to save the changes. That is all there is too it.

Thank you so much everyone! I think I am slowly figuring it all out. I feel like such a doofus sometimes when I sit in front of this computer. Like I have no business sitting here! LOL! Anywho! I think I have most of the kinks worked out. Thanks again for showing me the way. Couldn't have done it without ya! I am so glad I found this site! It is really cool and very helpful. I am sure I will be using it again in the near future. I am so excited to get my website up and running. It is so very novice it is sad, but I did it all by myself! And that is something! Feel free to check it out and make suggestions. There are a few bugs yet to clear up, but I'm getting there!

Thanks again all!

Kristin

Hello Again Krissy,
You have a great site going there ane the cakes are awsome. I think you will have a very successful business and your website will help you a lot. They look so nice and blend with your site so well that I hate to say anything, but..... Once you are down to fine tuning your site you might want to think about getting rid of the hover buttons. They are great except they are not very reliable and if you get visitors using netscape naviagator the hover buttons can actually cause their computer to crash. On my computer all the buttons on your site showed the first time I was on your home page, but when I returned half of them were grey.
There are a lot of options on buttons. Java Script rollovers are one way and there are sites that will create them for you, check out http://flashbuttons.com I think some of the free buttons they have are neat.
I can see from your products that you have an artistic flair and it is showing on your website too. You are doing a great job.

Hi again Turboguy!

Thank you so much for your compliments on my site. You just don't know what you did for this girl's ego!!! :-) Thank you! And thank you too for your suggestions. I am so new to all of this it is scarey that the site works at all! I have never been happy with the hover buttons but didn't know there was an alternative! Could you answer me this though... The site you gave has some really cool buttons on it but could you tell me the difference between them and hover buttons? Javascript rollovers you say huh? LOL! I will have to look that up! Doh! Thank you again for all your positive compliments. Means a lot to this computer newbie! Makes me feel there is hope for me yet! Hahaha! I look forward to hearing from you again and any other help you can dish out!
Kristin

Hello again Krissy,
Thanks for the nice things you said. First Krissy, this part is for anyone who happens to be surfing the net and reads this. Go visit Krissy's site. What she is doing is awsome. Ok, now I am back to you Krissy. When I talked about the java script rollovers, what it is basically there are two images and one is displayed on the screen. When somone has their cursor over your button graphic, then the other displays. A little like hover buttons but much better and much more flexable. The program I hear mentioned the most for creating this can be found at http://builder.cnet.com/webbuilding/pages/Programming/Kahn/012898/ It is called the mighty mouseover machine. Check it out if you want.

Guess who Turboman!

Thanks again for your compliments, encouragement and telling others to visit my site! I appreciate it. I have been slowly trying to learn more about these rollovers. Seems everyone agrees they are better than hover buttons. (Why FP still has them is silly then! LOL!) Somewhere I read you could create rollovers in ImageReady. Seems as though I have that program (didn't know it till just 15 minutes ago!) I opened it up and tried to figure it out. I see where you go to create them, but haven't a clue where to start. Should I muddle my way through it or just download from one of the free sites? Will I have all my hair pulled out if I attempt it in IR? Or is it doable? I am not afraid to try anything once, I just don't want to be bald by the end of the experience!!!!! Good thing I am not in a real rush to get this done! I wish I had known about these in the first place. Oh well, live and learn. And how I have learned from all of this. To think I knew nothing 6 months ago when it came to computers. Now, I know just enough to be dangerous! I'll let you know how I make out with the rollovers. Although I'll probably be begging for more help in the nearer future!

Kristin
