I am completly self taught and this is the first site I have published. The more I learn the more I see that could be improved. Any input would be appreciated. www.metastones.com

Well, if it wasn't for here, I would never had waited for the page(s) to load. I didn't have time to look at the code, but it's really slow for some reason. I'll try to look later if some one else doesn't drop by.

I just visited the first page (didn't click through) but it looks alright. :) I would suggest trying to create a graphic for a title :)

Penny,

Beautiful images!

A note on my personal preferences. With the background and text with little contrast, I would change the text to a san serif font such as Verdana, or Ariel. Italic text further degrades the readability.

For ease of browsing, be consistent in your placement of the navigation buttons. On some pages, they are on the bottom of the page. On others, the top.

Enjoy! It's your endeavor!

Hi Penny,
Looked at your site with IE 6.0, 800 X 600 resolution and 28.8 on 56K modem.

Your home page: http://www.metastones.com/ started to load fast, but then slowed down. In total it took 35 seconds, not bad with my connection speed. Look at you amethyst_cluster jpg, I think you forgot to re-size it. There was also a horizontal scroll bar.

I didn't have time to look at all your pages, but I did see other graphics that needed to be re-sized.

Charles made a good point as to the text and font. A darker font would help as to reading the text.

Once again, the pages loaded fast, even with the large graphics on my slooow connection.

Enjoyed the site. Hope this helps. Sorry I didn't have more time.

I would definitely put your navigation buttons closer to the top of the page (or, preferably, do a menu on the left side) and make them consistent throughout your site. I want to be able to get to pretty much any page on your site FROM any page on your site.

On your home page, it doesn't really make sense to have an "Enter" link and then a whole bunch more content under that.

On your Rough and Tumbled page, the Alt-tag for your sodalite picture is misspelled. On your Products Index page, the Alt-tag for the amethyst cluster is misspelled.

You missed the periods at the end of some of your sentences, specifically on the Rough and Tumbled page.

I think I would increase the font size of the titles on each page, as well as creating a graphic for "Metastones.com." I agree with the others' comments on the text in general - i.e. lose the italics and the Times New Roman.

I would suggest having someone proofread your content for spelling and grammar. I noticed quite a few errors, but don't really have the time at the moment to point them out individually.

You are off to a good start. I also enjoyed the site a great deal.

Thank you so much for all the input> I really appreciate it and am on to it.

Penny,

In viewing your site the width of the images and the navigation buttons cause me to scroll side to side. I didn't notice that in my prior post since I was on the other computer with the 21" monitor.

Enjoy! It's your endeavor!

Thanks for letting me know. I am re-engineering the whole thing at the moment. I want to change the whole navigation and incorporate the advice you have given me[;)]
